The Official Growl Bass Thread
Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
That sounds fucking terrible, mainly because of the source they're using... presumably a sample?
Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
I know BHK puts out some absolutely wicked sounds and sample packs, but that might just be, possibly THE worst "growl" I've ever heard. Quite honestly sounds like a Camel dying, or someone burping.Fbac wrote:hang on,, didnt someone already make a growl thing for kontact? you could choose vowels or something. il have a look
Think its pretty dire tho if i remember some reviews lol

There is not much processing going on, just my voice pitched down one octave, layered with the same sample pitched down -600cents, and original sample. Then I used a camelphat, soundgoodizer and eq to phat this up

Oh and I timestretched the sample 200%.

Do you use FL? If you do, whack that into Granulizer and twiddle the knobs.

3rd and final sounds are pretty nice. Could be good chopped round drums?

Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Soundcloud I was twiddling some knobs today, trying to experiment a bit! For this one I just layered the synth up 3 times I believe, then bounced it out to two channels and then did some filtering!
Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Here is my own take on it:
http://soundcloud.com/proj14/drum-and-bass-experiment/
Started with a reese in FM8, put it through Ohmicide to gnarl it up a bit, then a shit ton of eq automation including two peaks, a notch, a highpass and a lowpass. Then through Sugarbytes WOW filter with a slow LFO on the vowel cutoff to add a bit more modulation and a different "element" to the sound, then limiting. What do you think?

Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
As has been said before, FM synthesis can be really powerful but also can have quite the learning curve. I really suggest ya'll give it a try though. Very minimal fx processing can still give you a really nice sound. I cooked this up in FM8 and the only other thing I did was whack Live's amp onto it. Any suggestions though, guys and gals, on how to further distort this sound without loosing that nice definition? I've been struggling with that as I try to "flatten" the sound (so it doesn't sound so... idk spacey I guess)... I suppose I can't really describe it, but it seems to not be as crisp as I want it.

Edit: First without the amp distortion, then with.

Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
I did, but every time I try to distort the mids further I lose all the definition. I suppose part of that is my inability to get my EQs right as well. And are there any general suggestions for compression/limiting these types of sounds?blinkesko wrote:Tried freq splitting it?
Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread
Here's another one I made a couple weeks ago:
Soundcloud
I started with a bunch of detuned saws in Sytrus, with an envelope on an LFO on the volume (creates the tremolo effect). I layered an EQ over the synth to make it 'talk', and threw Vocodex over it (I might be missing some steps, it's 3:30 AM and I haven't opened the project in a while). I then sampled it and resynth'd it in Harmor, and then did even more distortion/detuning/formant shifting to get it even crazier. I'll post the project files tomorrow if anyone is interested in them (which I'm sure most of you are
).

Is the main talking coming from EQ, or vocoder? If from eq, can you post some screenshots how do you automate it?

Anyone wants any info?
Soundcloud compresion killed the most important part in growl basses: high end. Uncompressed version sounds so much organic.
