any way to use computer keyboard in reason?
So a friend gave me his copy of reason 5 after realizing he wasnt into into producing (lol) and i thought it would be cool to rewire in ableton to take advantage of its synths...is there anyway to use computer keyboard to play notes like in live, or am i gonna have to download an external midi port or something?

Re: any way to use computer keyboard in reason?
I think external midi port,i never worked out how to trigger reason with my comp keyboard.I only found one downloadable midi port for the mac which was completely useless to be fair.Notes used to hang and it was just generally a pain in the arse.

If you're going to be rewiring, why not just play notes in Ableton and have it send the MIDI to Reason?big lurch wrote:So a friend gave me his copy of reason 5 after realizing he wasnt into into producing (lol) and i thought it would be cool to rewire in ableton to take advantage of its synths...is there anyway to use computer keyboard to play notes like in live, or am i gonna have to download an external midi port or something?

Didn't even think of that...i'm absolutely clueless when it comes to rewiring...pardon my ignorance here, but when you say trigger the notes in ableton, dont you mean just sending the midi information to reason while i'm in abletons interface? that would be kinda pointless for me since i'm trying to become familiar with reasons layout and parameters, unless i can trigger the midi while having the reason interface open on my screen and being able to fiddle with the parameters if you get me?Genevieve wrote:If you're going to be rewiring, why not just play notes in Ableton and have it send the MIDI to Reason?big lurch wrote:So a friend gave me his copy of reason 5 after realizing he wasnt into into producing (lol) and i thought it would be cool to rewire in ableton to take advantage of its synths...is there anyway to use computer keyboard to play notes like in live, or am i gonna have to download an external midi port or something?
i suppose i can just draw in notes, i'm just so used to using my qwerty to test sounds out.

Sorry, my laptop glitched up and it only showed the top post. the rest became visible after I posted.
Re: any way to use computer keyboard in reason?
No worries man.
Re: any way to use computer keyboard in reason?
Sorry for slightly derailing the topic but does anyone know if there's a method for doing this in Reaper? I do have a midi keyboard but it's a full sized keyboard and it's a pain getting it to it on my desk next to the computer. For everyday note inputting it would be far simpler if I could use the computer keyboard. Cheers.
