Questions about an external soundcard & mpc's

Post by dudi1991 » Fri Jan 04, 2013 8:06 am

Hey, I don't know why they lOcked my older topic, I read all the big production topic, but it's not yelling me any information I really need - I have a couple of questions, please don't close this topic.

Ok so let's begin again.

Right now I need a new computer because my asus just suddenly died in my arms.
I'm thinking about MacBook pro (cuz I'm a dj too, STANTON DJC.4 as a controller) and I need something to work like really really quick.
But still I don't really know which computer can handle all the VST's in fl studio and samples & still work like chuck Norris.
I read I need a lot of ram but I don't really know the speeds, what is ssd hd, rpm.. And all these thing.
That's when you come to the picture and help me if you can, this would be really really great.
So, if I buy a laptop, should it be a MacBook? Because I've heard they don't crash at or / blue screens / freezing to death in the middle of the mixing.

Second,
Right now I have an AKAI MPK MINI as a keyboard midi controller.
I don't want to upgrade this level cuz it really gives me what I need for this point.
But my gear is Logitech 5.1 speakers and with no external soundcard.
So my question is, if I'll buy an external soundcard, will it improve my sound that good that I can notice right away?
And I've read about midi-audio "thing" and I just wondering if I get it right.
I can't connect my keyboard to the external sound card, becuz it's sending midi and not audio.
Am I right?
If so, I can only plug standalone synths to the external sound card?

And one more question.. I'm thinking about buying the akai xr-20 as a drum machine instead of the mpk mini pads.
What do you think?
It's a good drum machine?
I can buy also the native instrument drum machine and I really don't know what to do....
Please don't close this topic!
Thanks a lot

You're getting ahead of yourself. Before you start spending money on things, you have some research to do. Youtube reviews are your friend.

If you need to know what an SSD is, I can help you with that. http://bit.ly/101WQ1B

How come?
It's not spending money, my computer died... So I need a new computer, ok about the mpc maybe you're right for now, but what about a soundcard? I don't need one?
I don't think it's spending money, I'm not gonna be an armature,.. I want my sound to be good not like shit

Any computer with an Intel I-7 processor & 8-32GB RAM will be great.

As far as needing a soundcard, research Digital to Analog converters (DAC) and learn what they do. Maybe you'll decide you dont need it right now.

I have a Focusrite 8i6 and I like it a lot. Your MPK Mini wont plug into a soundcard, its USB. I have one of those myself.

Thanks for the computer suggestion, so I can pass the Mac issue? There's no different between the osx & windows in the softwares?

I've search about the DAC but I didn't understand what it is doing actually... (no I'm not trying to get you to explain me, I'm just saying that I didn't understand so much).
I know my mpk dont have a midi out.
But if I want to get a midi out, which keyboard should I use?

Well.
I made my decision to go on with MacBook pro i7 with 8 gb ram (mid 11).
I know I can't run fruityloops on this machine, so I'm preparing myself moving to ableton, which is something that I want quite a time.
Any way, Cain use fruityloops VST's & massive in ableton? I know I can in theory, but someone did it here and succeeded?

Please let me know, this is really important...
I mean like vsts like itchy synth for dubstep and .kds & .nmsv for massive.
And if I can drag wav & mp3 samples like in fruityloops?

Thanks a lot guys, please help me with this one

You actually can run FL on a mac using a program called Parallels. Look into it . There is another way but I cant think of the name of it.

Go to your VST folder where your FL Plugin .dll files are. Your Image Line folder usually. Create shortcuts to those .dll files and put the shortcuts in your Ableton VST folder.
Go to Ableton and rescan for plugins and it should work. It works for me.

The other program is winebottler (or the 3rd method - installing windows through boot camp or something, no?).
Well but Ive seen that there's various problems Espcially with the out coming sounds via the winebottler install of FL.

I'll choose my own way after all.

Well, thanks anyway.
I think I'll buy the ni instrument sample machine in a while

But the ableton can works with my akai mpk mini pad right?

fl on bootcamp works well but winebottler and crossover / parallels were nothing but trouble for me, your mileage may vary...
