Yeah thats part im most hyped about. Whenever we go away somewhere im liek the first in the water, last out. My gf thinks I was a fish in a previous life haha
Apparrently you can do whale watching in sri lanka and its possible to swim with Whale sharks in parts of thailand so hopefully will be on that!
Coincidently theyve just built the biggest "oceanarium" in the world in singapore.
Other than that it should be lots of hiking and such. We get to Thailand on thai new year which is sokran(I think?) worlds biggest water fight haha.
Only downside is its all during "wet season" and apparently it can hit 40+ inland if its not raining like mad.

The Thai new year is supposedly the most fun time to go there!
Also, someone once told me to take scuba diving lessons here, but take the test for the certificate out there. So you don't waste time learning out there, and can take your test in warmer water!
Swam with some juvenile whale sharks in the Atlanta Aquarium a few years back. One of them almost had my foot in its mouth!

please tell me you're bringing along a camera! would love to see bits of your journey.
have you been to singapore before? it feels like a utopia of sorts imo... definitely visit the Hawker Center and eat wherever you see the longest line, you won't regret it.

Ha yeah ofcourse! My gf who is arguabley alot better at camera work is aswell.
I mean I could try doing some writting but I would say its probably my weakest side
The closest Ive gotten to SE Asia is Madurai in Eastern India! Singapore was picked as it was further down than Malaysia for the same price and I really wantted to go to the Universal studios there

Im sure that will drop way down on the prio list once I look into it more.
Ill be 26 on the 4th to last day so we are hopfully going to be in the Singapore around that time but its down to funds and well planning that far in advance usually isnt worth it when backpacking (ive found anyway)

My brother is making a very similar trip right now.
I believe he was quite positive about the south of Cambodia, but also Laos.
Don't know about Thailand, guess it has it's ups and downs. Quite a populair destination of course.

Yeah a friend did two months teaching in cambodia and bans on about it alot. More in line whith what people expect when they go to thailand rather than the reality, if that makes sense?
I need to get on a sort a flight to Rome, a hostel in Srilanka and one for Bankok. Trying to find a bankok one that can pick you up at the airport is long..New year will be pure madness so the lower the stress involved the better!

Taxis in Bangkok are easy to get just make sure they turn the meter on.
You'll find the hostel may charge more for transport, find out.

That is fantastic news, the IRL reports and pics are the best part about this thread imo, regardless of where you end up. Not knowing and playing it by ear are some of the best parts of traveling.
now that is some serious spelunking

Forgot to load up this pic of Samaria Gorge in Crete. You might be able to make out the teeeeeeeny tiny people at the bottom. Really recommend visiting, 16km trail that starts from 2km up and drops down to sea level. Takes about 3-6h depending on how quickly you want to go.

^^^ that's amazing! rock climber's paradise.
also wanted to bump this and mention that wikipedia is launching
http://www.wikivoyage.org/ wiki voyage, pretty much the same concept, but with travel advice for various locations. it's just starting out but i can't wait until it's updated with all the various customs and nuances of individual countries.

according to the CC copyright license on wikitravel.org:
so it just looks like the same thing, except hosted on wikimedia's servers and with the oversight of their editors. im guessing that the beta users took full advantage of the former site
wikitravel uses mediawiki (software sanctioned by wiki to create wikipedia-esque pages for anything you choose), so it just looks like the information has come full circle.
