he means just putting it directly in the chain on the channel your working with.

yea.
use the first one to tame the peaks, then send the signal into the second one which is most likely one that has a nice character but would start pumping if you didn't catch the peaks with the first one.

Yeah, but you all are right. It's basically parallel compression on one channel. Light into heavy comp.

Technically, I think so, but I tend to think of parallel as 100% dry with extra compressed signal running along side (parallel) of the dry. It's purpose is to retain some dynamics of the original sound but also make it more full or fat.

i mean, yeah, that would be parallel. unless the compressor processes the dry signal is some way... some compressors will color the sound a bit if i'm not mistaken.

the benefit of setting up a separate channel for parallel compression would be that you're able to process the dry and wet signal differently, with an eq for example
