American Psycho, found it really entertaining, the scene with him and the two prostitutes is the funniest thing ive seen in a while, pointing at himself at the mirror
.
Spoilers
Found the end bit very confusing, why did the lawyer not recognise him? Did he not kill that colleague of his?

one of my favourite films ever. the theory of the ending being that he didnt actually kill anyone, and it was all in his diary (his sec reading it at the end). it was all in his head, it was just what he fantasised about all the time. but in the book it did actually happen, but no one would believe that such a 'normal high class person' would do such a thing.Terpit wrote:American Psycho, found it really entertaining, the scene with him and the two prostitutes is the funniest thing ive seen in a while, pointing at himself at the mirror.

So why did the lawyer not recognize him? Or thought he was someone else?
I thought some of it was in his head when he was shooting those police cars and they exploded, will have to watch it again soon and really pay attention.

the lawyer didnt recognise him because he didnt leave those answerphone messages, it was a fantasy. imagine the entire of the REAL film taking place in batemans office. he just sits and draws in his diary and fantasises. the cars exploding and him killing abuot 20 people at the end is just the climax of his emotional breakdown within his own mind.Terpit wrote:That links not working, what is it?jayladders wrote:one of my favourite films ever. the theory of the ending being that he didnt actually kill anyone, and it was all in his diary (his sec reading it at the end). it was all in his head, it was just what he fantasised about all the time. but in the book it did actually happen, but no one would believe that such a 'normal high class person' would do such a thing.Terpit wrote:American Psycho, found it really entertaining, the scene with him and the two prostitutes is the funniest thing ive seen in a while, pointing at himself at the mirror.

He did leave the message. His lawyer thought the message was a joke because he'd had lunch with Paul recently. It may well be Bateman's fantasy but you're never quite sure. The person the lawyer thinks is Paul Allen could be somebody completely different.jayladders wrote:the lawyer didnt recognise him because he didnt leave those answerphone messages, it was a fantasy. imagine the entire of the REAL film taking place in batemans office. he just sits and draws in his diary and fantasises. the cars exploding and him killing abuot 20 people at the end is just the climax of his emotional breakdown within his own mind.Terpit wrote:That links not working, what is it?jayladders wrote:one of my favourite films ever. the theory of the ending being that he didnt actually kill anyone, and it was all in his diary (his sec reading it at the end). it was all in his head, it was just what he fantasised about all the time. but in the book it did actually happen, but no one would believe that such a 'normal high class person' would do such a thing.Terpit wrote:American Psycho, found it really entertaining, the scene with him and the two prostitutes is the funniest thing ive seen in a while, pointing at himself at the mirror.

There's a lot of confusion as to who's who. People often referring to each other by, what we believe to be, incorrect names e.g Patrick / Marcus.
It's consumerism & materialism taken to its logical end point. It's basically a caricature. Self-obsessed people doing identical things, wearing identical clothes with a totally selfish desire for attainment & a complete lack of awareness of others. Anybody can be anybody because they're all the same & nobody cares.
Personally, I see it as Bateman retreating into fantasy to escape a sterile existence but it's open to interpretation. I'd say the entire thing being a fantasy is the easiest & probably most likely conclusion but there are others.

Dusted off the classics last night. Watched Platoon and Once Upon A Time In The West.
Re: Secret Ninja Movie Club (aka what have you watched latel
Requiem for a dream....good but depressing, good soundtrack, glad I watched it but don't think I will be again.
(I've been looking through this thread for recommendations. It would be helpful if people said something about films they've seen rather than just saying that they've seen them, cos that isn't really very helpful or interesting to anyone. And there are far too many spoilers in this thread, quite easy to discuss or comment about a film you've seen without giving away key twists of the plot/endings)

I kinda stopped doing that tbh... Giving your opinion on a film just ends up in a completely pointless discussion most of the time.Mr Hyde wrote:It would be helpful if people said something about films they've seen rather than just saying that they've seen them
When someone says he has just watched a film and really liked it there always has to be someone else that has to respond with saying that he has no clue what he's talking about because that film was total shit and vice versa. So I can't really be bothered anymore tbh.
Re: Secret Ninja Movie Club (aka what have you watched latel
Recently watched the good the bad and the ugly which is still as great as ever, but theres another possibly better spaghetti western I saw years ago that I've been meaning to track down, cant remember the name, but its the one where Eastwood is going around chewing tobacco and spitting on everyone, anyone know what I'm talking about?

One of the finest trilogies in cinema

Dredd
Ridiculously violent (the fucking incidenary round right at the start, FFS), a more realistic approach to how MegaCity One should look (IMO) vs. Stallone's plastic-y almost Tim Burton styled view. Like how he kept his helmet hidden, felt the satirical element of the comics was missing.
Fucking brutal film from start to finish though, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Re: Secret Ninja Movie Club (aka what have you watched latel
I recently watched The Man From Earth and Sunset Limited, both on recommendation from this thread, and I'm glad I did. If you're into films where not much happens they are both incredible. Man From Earth seemed a bit more "amateur" at times (and not just 'cus Sunset Limited has Samuel L Jackson) but still brings up some really insightful and interesting points. Don't watch Sunset Limited if you're already feeling miserable.Mr Hyde wrote: (I've been looking through this thread for recommendations.

Red Lights
Cillian Murphy & Signourney Weaver are paranormal debunkers attempting to prove world famous psychic Robert De Niro is a fraud. Good premise, good acting from all three leads, Toby Jones in support, good story and tension cranked up slowly. Completely falls apart in the last 10mins, ending was utter shite. Shame as enjoyed the 100-odd minutes up until that point.
