can someone help me get groove templates working in logic?
previously i've always programmed my drums in reason and used regroove (which i absolutely love). more recently, i copped Komplete 6 with razor for only $200 so i've been using battery with multi outputs sending each drum hit to its own channel on the mixer and sequencer. i have a nice rhythm programmed but i cant for the life of me figure out how to create and apply a groove template. i really wanna give this beat i got some swing and i cant be arsed to do it manually.
Re: can someone help me get groove templates working in logi
Click the Quantise option in the Region Parameter box and the quantise menu will pop up,at the bottom you will see make groove template. This will add the midi groove to the quantise list.
You can extract grooves from other programmes like reason and make templates this way.I believe you do this by creating a midi file with notes on all 16ths(may be wrong)you then apply a groove from whatever programme you are using(reason in your case)export this as a midi file.Load into logic and just follow the steps i posted above. The grooves will then be in the quantise list,i used the mpc ones knocking about the net.
Basically i created a logic project template with the grooves saved so every project i create they are at my disposal.

Honestly it is simple and very effective.I tend to do most my beats by ear so try for the natural swing approach but it is still nice to use on hats and and stuff.Eat Bass wrote:

The mpc ones came in folders if i remember correctly, you needed to double click the file inside of logic to open the folders, once in there you had a massive list of midi files that you had to make in to midi groove templates.Took me about 10 mins after i found walk through on the net.Logic 9 it is literally in the the quantise drop down list at the top left hand corner of your screen, you can't miss it lol
I will see if i can find a video for extracting midi grooves from reason,i know there is one for ableton into logic or the other way round.
Shame i haven't a clue how to make videos on my mac,i would be up for doing some tuts.

and i did try to find some tuts for this groove template thing but i failed to do it. i know where they are located in the quantize menu but for some reason i cant get them to work or am not doing it right?
when you apply the grooves, can you select the tracks you want affected? and do they physically move off the grid?
also, i dont NEED the reason grooves, if i could just get the mpc ones working i think id be happy...
Re: can someone help me get groove templates working in logi
Here is the best tut i can find for the mpc ones
Thing is that tut is for logic 8,the part where he goes options-make groove template is now different.
Open logic, create a instrument track now look at the top left hand corner of the arrange page there is a blue i in a circle.Look just under that and you should see "Quantize:off (3840)".Click this and you will get the drop down menu for all quantise values,at the very bottom you will see exactly what you are after "make midi groove"
This is the way you do it in logic 9.
If i remember correctly i sent you a copy of my template arrange i use which has all the mpc groove timings in????
