i really love this ''stutter hoover saw'' that is in this track.
any idea how to make that sound?
it begins at 0:55 and then later becomes a hoover type of sound

Chillstep Wet Fat Saw Pad (How Do I Make?)
Hey DubstepForum. Before getting into my question I wanted to apologize incase a thread like this has already been created, or if this thread is in the wrong section. I did my best to search through the existing threads, and there were a couple similar to this, but were long dead. So here goes...
I'm looking to create a "Wet Fat Saw Pad", I'm not too sure exactly the correct name to call it. I frequently hear it in "Chillstep" Songs. It's sort of a static-y sine, and is often the emphasis in the drop.
Rather than go on explaining the sounds, I'll give a loop that represents the sound I'm looking to re-create:
http://www.2shared.com/audio/iF6gSALQ/S ... ad_FA.html
Some songs that contain a sound similar to this include:
Meiko - Leave The Lights On (Culture Code Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz6eNCmaqWk
Mitis - Born (At 1:21)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDyDKzpWBY0
Rezonate - The Pheonix (At 1:22)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrgLyiwn ... A&index=10
I should definitely mention that my go-to synth is Native Instrument's Massive, so right now that's my only option to create this sound in,
But I'm willing to hear suggestions for synths that recreate this sound best.
Thanks to all who reply, in advance.

Re: Chillstep Wet Fat Saw Pad (How Do I Make?)
Well that synth has a few layers im guessing. Probably 3 or more:
1st layer- Subbass: make this play the root note of your chord. Google that if you dont get it, or search on here. There are plenty of tutorials to show how to make it.
2nd layer - Bass: There is probably a a nice bass patch in there, made using any synth. In your case massive. Make a synth using maybe the groan oscillator on bend +/- or using the deepthroat oscillator. Maybe a modern talking... Make sure each automates slowly... maybe at 1/1 or 1/2. Cut the low end of this synth so it doesnt get messy with the sub. Have this patch be playing the same note as the 1st layer. Make it beefy.
3rd layer - Supersaw: Google it. There is a plethora of tutorials on how to make a supersaw. Make it as wide as possible. Cut this patch up to about 150 hz. This patch will be playing the chord around the root note you used in the first two layers.
4th layer - High End Shit: I would add a patch with a wide, nice almost sparkling sounding high end. It could be a pad for instance. Cut the low end big time.
Now you can glue all these layers together in whatever way you would choose. EQ all the bad frequencies out of it. Possibly bus all the layers to a aux bus and add a filter to the mid frequencies to give it that rise effect. You could also use some side chain compression to that initial kick!! Experiment with it man

@statux
I'll try that. If you don't mind giving me some pointers once I'm done making it.

Re: specific sound production/modulation
Phase, Ring Mod, FM etc in the modulation section of massive, with envelopes on the pitch and lvls of those controls will make cool things hehe.

Sure thing. Private message me with whatever you come up with and I'll help you outMaestroMaharg wrote:@statux

Re: Chillstep Wet Fat Saw Pad (How Do I Make?)
Whats this new trend with bolding different things?
Re: how to make this j dilla lead?
its kinda like a guitar wah-wah pedal. you could do this kinda quick with 2 saw waves (or whatever you want)...pitch one up an octave (not necessary though) pitch the other up 5 semi-tones (also not necessary)....then put on a filter, try a bandpass filter and attach an envelope to the cutoff...make the envelope attack a bit less than half way...decay halfway...release pretty short.
..that's just one option, there's a lot of different ways you could go about it for other variations.

That sounds like my Juno-106 who is a master of that kind of sound.

Fuck chillstep is such a shit name.
Why do people insist on creating a sub genre within dubstep to define a sound that has been made for years under the monicker of Psydub/ambient.

How many different words can you place before the word "step" and have that be a genre that people take seriously. Fuck it, I'm starting Christ step. All Christian, all the time. Who wants in on this cash cow?

@Kit Fysto LMAO sig worthy!
Guy, how do you get the tape hiss sound, liek the really good high end crisp one. A lot of deep tracks use it and some of burial tunes have it ( I figured it was just because of the nature of his sampling of old tunes). How can I synthesize this sound well? Or where should I sample it from?
