Re: This warm hum...
boom. ray's left hand explains it. e-organs and e-pianos can have nice bottoms
Re: This warm hum...
How is it related to anything OP is talking about then?

Re: This warm hum...
OP asks what the midrange/bass hum is in Breakn' A Sweat by Skrillex & The Doors.AxeD wrote:How is it related to anything OP is talking about then?
I suggest it could be some of the low end harmonics from the live instrumentation that The Doors contributed.
What's not related?
Re: This warm hum...
Never mind, I apparently forgot to loose all respect for the Doors. My bad.
Just heard the track and there's basically no distinguishable 'hum' like OP means that I can hear. Did the Doors use their instruments?
Sounds to me like they imply Manzarek played the basic bro synth parts or even the vocoder melody.
I think the sound OP refers to is the bass with whatever processing was used.
This couldn't have been more awful btw
, I will resign from making any comments on this music from now on, as I
have no idea what I'm listening to right now..

Re: This warm hum...
I just gave it a listen. Im stoned too. I dont hear this magical hum you are on about. just a load of horrid noise. oucho.
Re: This warm hum...
So yeah I might be a lurker. But the Doors are seriously one of my favourite bands ever. the fact they even entertained the notion of working with a tnuc like Skrilliex pains me. Say what you want. Utter sell out wank of the higest degree. I wouldn't care if the track was decent, but it's complete shite. *is sick*
Re: This warm hum...
I didn't know this was standard fare, haha. I recently did this to add some beef to a bassline of mine. Just a typcal 'Just Want Another Chance' reese between 100 and 200 hz, bit of saturation and lo and hi passed. Gives some weight on system without a sub.JFK wrote:Could be a sub layered with a low passed reece. Lots of people do this to add definition to their subs.
Yeah nothing special if that's it. Is this an attempt of a Skrillex fan to legitemize his production?

It's not about whether they used guitars/organ whatever, I mean their influence is hardly noticeable.mthrfnk wrote:AxeD wrote:Did the Doors use their instruments?
Kind of feel like you're trying to defend this collab or something.
I mean, on studio cans I can hear the piano part way in the back, but they squashed the living hell out of the end product.
Honestly I think you've got to be pretty damn high to hear any warmth in this. OP obviously was high so that brings us
right back

Feel for ya Splitz, this thing is like a warm humming kick in the sack.

Re: This warm hum...
I'm not really defending it? You keep asking questions about it as if The Doors did nothing or they were just sampled etc, all I'm doing is showing you what actually went into the track, you can see from those videos what they did and you can hear what ended up in the final track. The fact is people are "losing respect" for them because they've collaborated on this track with the so-called devil that is Skrillex, the whole idea of this was part of some project and documentary where artists from completely different genres had to work together, they weren't forced/ripped off/fucked over - they chose to do this and judging from the videos they enjoyed it and liked the stuff they were making.
Tbf I don't really care about this oppinions on this track, and I'm not really an avid fan of the track myself, I was just trying to help out the OP and answer your questions in the process. Aside from that I do like the idea of the documentary this was from, and overall it's a pretty interesting watch.
Also I don't hear the warm hum directly like you said, but you can if you EQ it out like the OP said, hence why I said it might be harmonics from some of the live instruments bleeding into the synth work.
