Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
Hey guys, I am not a master but some thing work well for me ( i believe) so i try to give practical advices . I expect the same in return )
Altron : good vibes, very nice, compositionwise too. No advices for you sir.
Scy7he : Very cool, but the mixing is wrong, kick and snare should be much louder and the bass ... no bass either , you see what I mean ? volume levels. In terms of composition proper tune. the kick and the snare should be louder than bass, everything else to you taste, dont add comressors to kick and snare use eq8 (ableton) instead raise the kick around 30-40 and the snare around 170-230 , bass around 40-170 hz. Or if you know all this things I think they would be a useful advice for D-ROD
D-ROD : its good, but not enough dramma, some background noises, I know noone wants to be like other producer and use noise effect + cutoff/filter opening knida thing but then you need a substitute and there isnt one . Otherways its good.
Kongret : Great, I really enjoyed that one, keep up the good work man !
here is my latest tune, next step is mastering I suppose, you tell me whats wrong with it )

Scy7he, try adding some bass line with more flow to it and some bass sidechain compression underneath the mid-ranged tone at the beginning
D-rod, i like the beginning, at the open part, afterward you should add a minidrop to get the people going, or an accapella, then put it into the same mixup
then just run into your drop like you are
Altron, nice creepy intro
i like it, it sounds like a clock tick in the background too very nicely done, feels a little long so far, but not much. I like the bass drop in
this is something i would listen to in my friends car
The sound in my ear isnt filling though, it feels a little open in the top end.
and lastly heres mine Soundcloud

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
alexeyhermann: snare sounds a little hollow, but it sounds like you were going for that. technically this track is amazing, almost to the point where it sounds like audio overload. sounds like you put a lot of work into this, keep it up!
evilmoonmoose: somethings...off. i can't really put my finger on it. it's almost like the track is moving too slow. some of the synths are really uninteresting and dull sounding...more modulation is needed. your changeups are interesting. it sounds like you just went crazy warping bpm or something. idk. needs work to be honest. your bass synth sounds really sketchy, like it's low too many octaves, and the attack is too low so it's making a clicking noise. gotta get rid of that. funny sample lol.
altron: kind of a district type vibe you have going on here, definitely some potential for this one. the drums are being drowned out by the synth, and it sounds like you need to do some EQ'ing to separate the different sounds you have going. good work with the delay and the syncopation is on point as well as the composition. sub sounds good too. the reese is really well done, needs to be saturated or something though to bring it forward in the mix more. seriously good work though.
this track is extremely rough, i cannot stress that enough. rough as in i haven't done any compression, added any effects like reverb or anything like that. it's really just battery with the samples i want to use (for now, going to add more) and a few synths with no effects in the chain or modulation. it's probably about 4 total hours of work so far, so keep that in mind. c&c appreciated!

Does my drop work with the rest? I'm mind fucked right now and can't tell. My only question is the drop. I think the rest is fine, i just need to add some sweeps later.
Or should I redo the whole drop?
@alexeyhermann your track is dope man. sounds really legit, just needs a better mixdown and mastering and it will be perfect. reminds me of zeds dead...
@evilmoonmoose your track needs some work, what type of music are you aiming for? maybe i can help. I'd say put some sweeps(white noise) almost like wind sounds to match your tone of the song. Needs some movement in the beginning and for some other parts.
@difference nice drum work in your song, when the hi hat stops at around :13 i think you should put a delay, or ping pong effect or large reverb on the last hit so it echoes. probably will sound legit. i think your snare sounds a lil bit too dry compared to the other sounds. give it a more spacey reverb hit or something.

@alexeyhermann
Not really my sort of tune but i quite like the idea.I like the eerie synths you have in the beginning and really like the drums.The snare lacks a bit of top end so it doesn't cut through the mix as well as it should but in all honesty the mix isn't really bad just needs a little work.Sound design is all pretty decent,track gets a bit messy in parts but thats the idea of bro though isn't it lol
Arrangement is actually pretty good in my opinion,a lot going on so hard to keep track of direction but yeah not bad.
@evilmoonmouse
Drums at the start are really weak and really lack groove,just sounds like a typical kick snare pattern.Intro itself is a bit bland pretty much going with the bland theme of the whole tune.I'm not being harsh just saying as i see it to be honest.If your just starting out it is an ok effort so don't take this to heart to much.Generall feel of the track and the layers work quite well together you just really need to focus on using effects and sound design for me to get your tracks a bit more soul.
@Difference
Love the synth on the intro,drums are pretty good as well.Lovely sub on the drop and feel the general overtone of the track is pretty dark which i like.Must say i like the stubby synth you bring in about half way through as well,compliments the feel and sound structure.Mix is nice,if i was to critique one thing i feel you could put a little more effort into the drum work as it gets a little stagnant but yeah props i like.
Ok,another one from my ep,last piece of the puzzle,gone proper dub with this so look forward to the feedback.

lloydy- nice tune man, dubby as fuck and a very enjoyable listen. only thing would be the skank sound on the offbeat is a little quiet, then randomly jumps up to being slightly too loud every so often, maybe have a quick look at that. other than that, vibesing!
difference- nice start man, not much i can say with it being at such an early stage, just keep up to it and finish it off, got a lot of potential
evilmoonmoose- needs a lot of mixing down man, snares waaay too quiet for starters. look at putting extra atmospherics in there, and work on your synths as well, they just sound a little rough at the moment mate. keep practising though man
heres my wip so far

Okay guys, not using my normal headphones atm so comments on mix might be slightly inaccurate, but will try and give feedback as best I can
@Cheeky - Digging these vocal samples over the pad intro, but feel like you might be able to make it a bit more full as it builds up, track feels a little hollow with not much variation going on.
@lloydy - Liking this a lot man, feel like the track's got a lot of character especially with these samples. Not sure what else to say man, this track's sounding pretty dope (at least through these headphones haha)
@difference - Straight away I feel like you could make that snare more punchy especially, and perhaps bring the kick up also. Digging that moving feel to the sub and the kindda spaced out feel of the track, perhaps try adding more melody's or changes to the melody / harmonics to create more variation and keep the track interesting is my biggest critique, that initial synth that runs throughout sounds good at first, but I personally wouldn't use it for as long as you have
This is a track I've been working on as an AS Level project at college (The task is to create a dubstep remix of 'rolling in the deep', but the criteria's quite tight, we can't use vocal samples etc), feedback on both the mix and composition so far would be incredibly useful, thanks!

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
@ VirusTI ; I think thats a really cool idea for a song, but it seems like a bit of it gets lost in the mix. Mostly im hearing the wobble bass and some other sounds and its overpowering the piano melody. Maybe just work on the mix a bit and it will sound sweet.
@Cheeky ; Normally im not into that kind of stuff, but i think its a cool tune. Its mixed will (imo) and just has a cool minimal feel to it. Only complaint is my my 6" monitors cant get the full weight of the bass! haha!
@difference ; I like this one. Im really digging the hat pattern. It adds a lot to the song without making it sound to busy. You said yourself, just needs some effects. Maybe some eq and compression. Aside from that, its cool.
Heres my track. Ive been listening to a lot of grind latley and wanted to make (what i thought would be) an electronic version of that. Something kinda spastic and not serious at all.

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
@lloydy: I dig this tune quite a bit. good vibe on it. The bass feels like it could loose a bit of mud in the 200hz area and sound a bit bigger while working better with the kick,unless you are intentionally going for an overdriven dirty kinda vibe. I really like the percussion work on this as well as the use of samples and SFX. Really solid track, minimal but it always stays interesting.
@crimsonghost: funny little track. if you were to do more to it, automate the decay of the big boomy kick on those short notes, while maybe increasing pitch env depth.
@difference: Pretty raw, as you say, but its a great seed for a track. just needs variations and sound design elements to really bring it together.
Here's my track, pretty simple at the moment, not much mix work yet. Made with all hardware

@knobgoblin (great name
) :i found your track to be very original. the percussion is very cool but i wish everything was a bit cleaner. the drums seem almost distorted in a way and the bassline is unclear through my monitors. either way great arrangement and ideas, just work on cleaning things up a bit if possible.
@crimsonghost, i love the automation on the break beat in the intro. it seriously sounds great and penetrates nicely
.
i felt like the higher sounds were too harsh and dry, but some people like that so yeah. other than that i enjoyed the listen
@virus, i found your mixdown to be very "glossy".
i think the note choice is pretty decent but i would work on progression a bit. it was a little hard to follow.
@lloydy,
love dubstep that is true to its roots. great sub bass, hi hats sound pretty nice but i would maybe add more breaks.other than that i would maybe add small sections of mid-bass.
the track is very well done, good job.
i just got some new monitors and it has given me a lot of motivation to make music.i made both of these i the last 24 hours so i mightve gotten a little lazy and missed something. please let me know.

ol i listen rather drunk so i might be off on some stuff but most people listen to music drunk so deal with it
@eye-sic i like the whole vibe of it with those sirens in the back, hard to tell if some kind of switch in the main bass melody would add sth but i think some kind of spaces inbetween or sublime stuff like filter movement etc could keep it goint still atribute sth to keep it interesting until the bridge or interlude comes into play
@knobgoblin it gets too loopy after a while, it has that silent hill vibe though so just drop some drums make some unexpected breaks the overall atmosphere is really nice though. just yeah maybe do waht eye sic says cant heart and try to make it a tiny bit more jumpy
@crimsonghost haha wierd tune so i dunno what to tell you tunes like that life of the idea of the producer if i tell you to do that you should do the opposite or ignore what i said to get where you want so jsut do what you want or yeah do what i dont want
@virus ti adele is fat but your tune could be a bit tighter. hm maybe tiny bit less of a midi feel to some parts of it i like some of the bass osunds though hard to tell. what i enjoy are the comb filter parts
@lloydy you know my feedback and i think you fixed the stabs anyways so i enjoy it

@VirusTI
The beginning sounds pretty neat, the bass sounds, I like. but the Adele melody somehow doesn't fit in, since the bass is more percussive than melodic.
@Crimsonghost
If you are going for such a strange style, Id demand a more complex bass, with more autmation. Ofc there are some flaws to the mix, but the composition is really cool! Good job on the changing between aggressive and calm!
@Eye-sic
The second tune is really good! both have the same bongo samples, or very similar. The first one sounds to busy for my taste, maybe because of the kick placement. also the lead sound is a bit straining. In the second one the kick sounds too clicky, maybe needs more low end. Exeptional atmosphere!
I'm really tring to get the mix to sound well in this one. No dubstep but I need some feedback on how clear the kick and the other elements are!

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
added a short intro,tweaked the mix, and worked on the arrangement/drum edits more. I'm trying to keep the rhythmic changes somewhat minimal, as im going for a more hypnotic vibe than a jump up and dance vibe, so im trying to find the balance between too much change and not enough to keep things interesting. Drums are meant to be saturated and over compressed, but i backed it off a tad, so hopefully it breathes a bit more.

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
I'm actually very happy with he feedback that I've gotten on my tune. I was sure everyone was going it say "wtf is this shit?!" . But it seems like you like it because its different, and that's what I wanted. I also felt like i got real feedback. Ty

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
@knobgoblin: Weird sounds man, definitely got that trippy vibe going. I like the boomy kick although perhaps scoop the mids a bit on it. The little changes to keep it interesting are good but I'd definitely recommend adding a breakdown for a little breathing space - 5 minutes of near continuous sounds gets tiring. Very interesting track though
@Divane: Interesting beat on the intro, sounds clean too - nicely mixed. Did you make the robotic vox, if so how? The kick sounds okay, although two things to try: layer a low volume hat over it for a little more click and definitely cut some space for it out of the guitar lead using EQ, you could probably sidechain this. I like the changes in drum rhythm. One thing tht I dont like is the little horn stab towards the end, its really out of place. I love the "chorus" though, would definitely like a 320 when done. Where'd you get the choppy vox and guitars man they're spot on
@Eye-siC: #1- Nice groove going on with the synths vs drums. Not too sure about the sirens though. I think you need to switch in or change the riff/synth at times though. Mix sounds okay too. #2- I like the sub/bass going on, nice drum groove too. The kick needs more low end imo, it's too clicky. Again some variation is needed, but the basic overall structure sounds nice.
@Crimsonghost: Definitely different, some good ideas but not to my taste haha, not too sure what to recommend tbh, perhaps try enhacing the width on those high synths - everything is very central.
@lloydy: Good shit man, a lot going on but it's all clear. I find the shakers a little too loud though because they're panned so hard. Tbh I'd like you to bring in perhaps a piano or rhodes riff at times just to break away from the guitar skanks on he first two sections, the horns help with this on the 3rd section. Nice work man
An update on a previous track from me, the breakdown/intro vocals and guitars are a bit fucked up but nvm:
