Ignorant House/Techno question.

Post by zerbaman » Mon Feb 11, 2013 2:24 am

What is the difference?

When did the two become distinctly separate?
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?

Man, similar influences, different directions.

From talking with some of the Detroit cats, I know they were traveling to the Chi to dig on the Warehouse and the Music Box.

But the D brought a whole different mindset to it.

I used to be like this

But I kind of feel the difference is that techno is more strict, and house has a bit more of a groove and swing to it maybe.

Also house tends to be like 4 to the floor with a clap on the 2nd and 4th beat, but techno isnt really restricted to 4X4 or having claps anymore.

Some techno is more techy, and also i feel it can have more repeated patterns, like a chord progression that will loop every 1 or 2 bars, where as house would have a more traditional progression that might be a more groovy chord pattern over like 8 or 16 bars.

Then there is tech house though, which is mainly shit, but like also what would be a good mix between the two lol

Honestly Techno sounds more machine like

House is more on the soulful sound. Even at it's least human sounding there's still some sort of trace to the groovyness in disco.

When did they become distinct and separate? The answer is always.

Yeahhh I'd agree with this, it took me a long time to be able to 'get' the difference between the two as there are a lot of similarities rhythm wise.

I see techno as the darker more introverted one. Sounds are a lot more gritty, more emphasis on filtered synths that sound 'organic' and has an industrially vibe to it.

House seems more livelier, more uplifting I guess.

Just keep listening to the two genres, find what you like and eventually you'll be able to hear the difference. :D

I always thought the biggest difference was the BPM/fastness of techno to the slower bpm of techno.

I associate techno with fast nightcore stuff.
