Indeedy, will def be checking new Black Mirror, that and Utopia give me hope for better standards of Brit Telly...altho I'm too skeptical to think there will be much more in that calibre this year...probbaly just loads more reality tv about a man looking for some fluff and has problems eating a sandwich

it was alright, good acting and that especially by the woman- it felt much more drama-ey than last year focusing a lot on the human process of grief as the centrepoint, rather than the technology overmuch- though it was a interesting idea- ended up trying to think what a person based on my social media posts would be like :corncry: .

I did like the ending, sticking the old technology you don't really need in the loft like everything else, letting your kid go "use" it every weekend or so- like an iDad or something.
well put. think i enjoyed the other episodes a tad more, but it wasnt bad by any means. anyways i really hope no one tries to recreate me based on my dsf posting

utopia's been pretty decent so far, for some reason still not fully sold on it though. like jizzman said, something just feels a little off. could be cause such a large portion of the underlying plot workings are still rather secret, i feel like it could end up being kind of lame depending on where they take it. but it's definitely got my attention, looking forward to catching the latest episode.

Ep 5 really brought some good plot aspects into perspective, fleshing out some of the characters a bit more really helped...I know it's pretty stylised but I think that has a lot to do with it's associations with comics...you can have stylised violence AND that not eclipse the plot...plus Arby's character got deeeep! Just hope they can round it off nicely, so far it's still got me proper gripped :h:

This! It really does feel like anyone could die at any minute. Love Peanut boy & how you think hes a bit mental but he seems to be in control of most situations! felt sorry for little Grant getting caught by the police... Havent got a clue where its gonna go on this final episode & like others here I've got a feeling it could be a let down.

Black Mirror was wicked. Much more subtle than the first 3 in series 1 but then when I thought about it & chatted to others who watched it I thought it packed a lot in an hour. Someone was trying to tell me its a rip off of an old story not done very well. Anyone else heard this? Sounds like bullshit to me...

Yeah, that feeling that no-one is above being murdered in some horrific manner is mint.

Jus watched Black Mirror, thought it was good..some interesting ideas in it..it does feel like a familiar story..like something perhaps inspired it rather than it bein a case of him just ripping it off..I mean it's like Pet cemetary but with FB and twitter instead of black magic :D

I think the 5th episode changed the whole thing from being a sort of cool Lynch-esque thing to being just illuminati misfits which i guess is acceptable but nothing particularly special.
Like the mi5 woman, her having a son that was affected seemed like a weak plot excuse and so on.
Shame.

kind of agree with this, especially on the mi5 twist. Also when the guy went "carver wants to make the whole world infertile" i just burst out laughing. Its a cool idea yeah, but it was almost as if the side stories of arby and the scottish civil servant were really nicely written out, while the main story was just a case of aahh lets make an insaane conspiracy!!

and phigure, i wouldnt be surprised if that was the twist hahaa. The final scene is just him getting off the bed and walking out of the room to that ending credits music

Yeah I definitely agree about that. In a way I almost feel like that's what theyre going for... That they almost intend for it to be more about the individual motivations of the characters, rather than the actual overarching conspiracy.

And that's pretty much exactly how I was imagining it. I hope end up being right though, that would be a bit of a cop out

   :4:

Definitely its weighted so its more about the characters individual struggle as its cheaper to do creatively.
Same thing with the one eyed dude suddenly buying the sterile concept. Its a bit of a cop-out. The really great thing is the sinister tone and the violence being so in your face and gruesome, imo. Oh and the acting ofcourse.

There's just not that progression and cash in tv to be able to fully take it too film levels yet. Which shouldn't be an excuse - they should be able to just work around it creatively.

Its the same thing in 'days of our dragon lives' where anytime there's a big battle comming on the dwarf falls a sleep or something  and then the actual story continues from when the battle is over and the studio wont have to pay for a lot of extras and choreographery.

It also happens in the wire from season 3 and forward, where suddenly there isn't the same frequency of new characters and the writers just use already established characters. It might be that the studio already gave those actors a contract and its cheaper to keep them and write them back in, rather than introduce new ones, but it fucks with the realism. Usually its a romantic connection.

Yeah really enjoyed it, didn't see the ending coming at all- to start with I was thinking the boy and girl at the petrol station's acting was quite shaky as well as the general way she kept bringing the girl with her the whole time being suspect, which made me think it was a Derren Brown type thing but the way it was revealed and the consequences of the reveal were very well handled.

It was almost a complete deconstruction of the 28 days later style/apocalypse movie in the end, not only the way it was completely set up but the fact the protagonist turned out to be "evil" (I love that trope) and the zombies being "good"- though obviously there's a hell of a lot ambiguity there: I've never felt so much compassion for someone who's helped burn a child before lol. I think the only way it could have been better is if it had been a paedophile, though perhaps that would have been a tad controversial at the moment haha.

Last episode of utopia tonight! Is it bad I'm quite hoping that the sterilisation plan works, partly because I kind of agree with it and partly because I want it to be a prequel to Children of Men. (I have doubts that is the actual plan of the Network anyway but hey).
