Connecting outboard compressor to Fast Track Pro & Logic Pro

Hey All,

I've got a Fast Track Pro, that I hookup krk's into the TRS 1 and 2 outs, and then usb into logic pro. I'm looking to get a few choice pieces of gear, and i've got an alesis 3630 compressor to test out how it all works, but unfortunately, I can't figure out how to work it.

I've got an insert Y-cable plugged into insert 1 on the fast track and the Tip plugged into the compressor input, and the ring plugged into the compressor output.

So from here, how do I use the Alesis as a channel insert in logic? I've tried using the default i/o plugin but haven't had any luck. If anybody could provide me with any information that would be great. If you need to know anything from me just ask!

thanks for the links dude, but thats basically what i've been trying. On logic's I/O plugin i can only assign the input to 1-2 and the output can be 3-4 or 1-2. Obviously when the output is 3-4 there is no sound, as my speakers are in 1-2. No matter what i'm trying i can't get the compressor to get any signal into it. Any ideas?

an insert is only useful if you want to process something before going out of the outputs.

IE, i patch a compressor into the insert of a mic pre, and it lets me tweak the input and output gain of the compressor to find the sweet spot, and then that signal goes back to the output of the pre, so that I can either boost or reduce the signal before it goes wherever else it goes.

Inserts are useful in mixer channels and in that kind of outboard setup. For the FTP, it's probably just meant for you to be able to patch in some processing before sending the signal to a front of house board, where they may not have that kind of processing available.

an insert is NOT going to work for your situation though. You need to go out of whatever output you choose, then into the comp, then back into the inputs, and record those to a new channel.

(and then go in and time-align the recorded material with the orig material)

thanks for the description dude, that's very informative. it sounds like what i'm going to have to do is get a rack unit to replace the FTP that can handle this stuff that i want to do, which is fine, I'm outgrowning the FTP anyways, the pre amp sucks in it and i've been craving for a new interface.
