Reading assignment/posts on discussion board regarding childrearing. I have a Japanese-American cohort who explained that traditionally, affections in the family are weaned - hugs and kisses stop, and "i love you" are rare/nonexistent. She does not remember when she got these from her parents/grandparents (she's 25). Kind of makes me sad. I feel like the drama series lied. I won't be surprised if it's the same with Koreans. Chinese people, apart from trying to get rich, I don't know anymore. My cousins (half-Chinese) are very warm though. Must be the Filipino in them. I was wrong to put us all Asians in one box when it comes to family tradition. I would feel disowned if my parents never hug/kiss/tell me they love me. Too wrong. I feel weird cos I thought we were all the same. Maybe just her family?
