I didn't think they'd give much away. Oh well, wishful thinking. Surely they know that everyone wants to know about the basses.

Mmm. I was surprised they used Superior Drumme though, I always imagined they been the kind of people to hand place drums, but the resoning behind it made sense... they spend so much attention on processing drums right

Just downloaded the issue. I won't have time to watch it for a few days though, anything interesting? Thoughts?

I thought this video was pretty good and pretty much showed that if you want to make sounds like noisia what you need to do is spend as much time in the studio as noisia do twisting and processing sounds. There's no secret shortcut, you just got to keep at it.

Was tempted to get digital version of this but after reading around, looks like a lot of people have had problems with the video. :?

I believe there's a bay of pirates that has the video. They don't show off any synth work, just drums, but I still think it was interesting.

anyone else get the feeling that they were making a mockery of the situation?

I wouldn't put it past them and they only really discussed drums and processing. I didn't pick up anything new/tips/advice from the entire video. The ONLY thing I got from watching it was that they spend a shit ton of time doing sound design, and then separately do sequencing/composition sessions with said sounds. And as such, predominantly work with audio, not midi. I think that from so much experimentation, they have developed an ear for when the sound has lost it's direction. When he was cycling through some kick drum samples, at times, I couldn't really pick up much of a contextual change in sound design. There were a few instances where he said the sound was shit, whether it had been a kick, snare, or bass sound, but I couldn't understand why. I guess if you've spent the time they have working with audio, I'm sure you would hear it though...Also it did put to rest all those, "You must layerz to get da noisia sounds" comments. I appreciate that they would rather work with getting the most from a single source rather than layer a bunch of shit and see where it goes.

At the end of the day, I think it was more of a look into their workflow than anything else, which is cool. Part of me thinks that they have developed their composition skills akin to their sound design/workflow. But of course that's where they get their style from.

I ended up buying the digital version of this in the end. (The download worked! although took a while :/)

I liked it, mainly for the workflow reasons. Tbh it's evident if you listen to any noisia track that a lot of time is spent in their production and a half hour video isn't going to make you sound like noisia

But there are definitely some good bits in here. Mainly workflow and a couple of EQ tips. :W:

Making a mockery of the situation how?

Its not like they were begging to do a tutorial, its the other way around. If people come around filming you and asking about your creative process and define you as some kind of master, what would you say in the same situation? Theres alot of great tips in there, especially for drum processing, if people are willing to get past the mentality of thinking a sentence out of his mouth is going to make you capable of noisia basses or something. If you are on this forum you should already know how to make a reese, and that basses that sound different have different processing behind them with no set way of doing it. The difference lies in learning to hear what your processing is actually doing to the sound and not high passing/freq splitting/compressing everything by default without care.

@ Sinfected: Check my contributions the reese bass thread, my friend. I know MUCH about the reese and resampling the shizzit out of it. My contention is that if you know what everyone is after, spill the beans. Bass wasn't even covered. I feel that if you share the love, you keep progression moving forward. Let's not make this a much already beaten to death debate about people copying others style/production techniques vs experimentation and finding your own sound. If your appreciation is at all at a level where we hope it is, you can identify a copycat trying to cash in on something already done before vs someone trying to push the boundaries.

I just listened to this today from borgore:

straight garbage if you ask me.

and then there's this from Reso:

IMO next level shit that I'll be posting elsewhere on here to see what people think.
