Yeah..UGK, Geto Boys, and pre-2002 Three 6 Mafia is the best rap ever recorded. I wasn't really including them. Project Pat's new shit is still great, but it's not nearly as hedonistic and entertaining as 08-09 Gucci.

I came into the thread thinking I'd post fairly current stuff and ended up posting four year old tunes, but still..didn't expect Gucci to be compared to the greatest groups ever :|
hey, you wouldn't hire a clown to fix a leak in the john..so why do you let these hooligans tear down the biz?

Gucci is fun stuff along with a lot of modern shit, but UGK, 3 6, Pastor Troy, etc god all the shit I grew up with when I lived in GA being a kid from NY first experiencing southern rap in 01 etc were pure Trap
Not mentioned yet in this thread MJG & 8Ball

Same, grew up in Alabama via the midwest when Swishahouse and Hyptomized Minds were starting to really blow up

^^probably my favorite 8ball & MJG joint

Can't forget Mac Dre. The south and the west just had that vibe..

The southern culture was so easy to adapt to and the music was mmmm
My most 2 bumped tunes when i lived in TX

Oh and best thing about living in the south is I got every "rare" WU, Nas, Mobb, etc vinyl for cheap from the local shops as none of the southern guys touched em.

Never was able to understand the NE's bias toward the south. I guess when Cash Money and No Limit blew up there wasn't really a super ignorant NY equivalent. Then Dipset happened it was maybe a rhyme scheme thing, and that bias never really slowed down..but I've always preferred the rolling flow to the broken flow.

That said, I've always felt Redman was underrated. Far and away my favorite from the Northeast.

Well at the time it was 3 6, Pastor Troy, Tear Da Club Up, when Mobb Deep, Wu and Nas was blowing up in NE. CNN/Norega pop wise.
Meth and Red's Blackout LP transgressed the borders
Same with Busta
I always loved what DJ Nappy did with my beats for his thugstep shit, and now he's huge.
