Need some links

Post by quadexe » Fri Mar 08, 2013 11:03 pm

Hi guys, I've been producing for a long time but never really spent time searching for better ways to make my sounds at it's best. I don't even know basic terms like "high pass, low pass" or anything about frequencies. I'd much appreciate it if anyone would link me to tutorials or anything to grind on the basic structures of producing. If it would help if I could name some things that I need to know so it would be easier for anyone who would be willing to help, I'll comment for more details. I just need myself to go in the right direction. Thank you in return!

When you say you have been producing for a long time how long?To not know the basics after a short while is a bit shocking!
Also the top of the forum is the production bible, dive in it's full of useful info.

Ahh, Why am I so blind? I see it now my awareness is just running low, still new to this forum :). And.. about 4-5 years. I didn't know of many techniques, I either youtubed some to get some sounds right or just wing it. But techniques is one thing, it's more of I'm trying to learn key-words to better understand how my sounds shape out and the end results of putting types of filters. It's pretty difficult now not knowing what to do with my work :(
Much Appreciated :)

All good famalam.
See a filter is exactly what it is named.High pass filter lets frequency's below the cutoff point through, low pass lets frequency's above the cuttoff point. It's simple just load some drums into your daw,add a lowpass filter and turn the cutoff all the way to the left, you shouldn't hear anyhthing(depending on the slope but thats for another time). Now as you raise the knob back up all you should hear is the low end,as you raise it back towards the right you will start to hear the rest of the frequency's filter back through. Now look at a high pass filter it is simply the opposite of a low pass,it starts at the top end and works down to the low end.
There isn't anything confusing about it and if you have been making tunes for 5-6 years you have more than likely been using all these types of plugs anyway so terminology should be simple.

Lowpass Filter: A filter that only lets in frequencies below the cutoff frequency

Highpass Filter: A filter that only lets in frequencies above the cutoff frequency

Bandpass Filter: A filter that only lets in a certain range of frequencies

:W: good luck
