Doozle wrote:I don't think I've ever paid more than about £40 for a battery. And I've always bought part worn tyres so they've never cost more than about £40. However road tax cost me £150 for six months in January (I still haven't received my tax disc, and still haven't got round to getting a replacement sent) and i had to pay £600 for a new gearbox and have it fitted last year.

My car costs a fortune for fuel (£10 gets me about 50 miles unless I do loads of motorway driving). I only use my car to drive to work, my next car for me will be something cheap and slower. Which as a car lover is really hard for me. I love my car, but it costs too much. If I get a small car, it's going to have to be fun and like a go cart.
In all fairness i did go to halfords and get them to fit it,i spend all week getting covered in oil and grease so i need a day off.No doubt if i bought the battery and fitted it myself it would have been a hell of a lot cheaper.
Feel you on the petrol,i drive a mk4 golf gti which is just the mk3 engine and half a ton heavier so its really torquey, drinks petrol like a motherfucker.I think if i was to fill it every week i would easily burn about £40-£60,i get probably 24miles to the galon when sitting at 60 so very juicy.
I know i am moaning about my car but it gets me from a to b so i suppose i have to live with the expense.
