<3.
It's an ambition of mine to get a sitar one day and learn it. I can play guitar so I can't imagine it being much of a jump. Thanks for the link.

Nice find!
^Ebolaman, this might be up your alley. This guy gets a Sitar-like sound out of a regular guitar. he also makes his own instruments and one uses a ribbon controller

Re: free sitar synth
That is so cool. The Yardbirds recorded a version of 'Heart Full of Soul' with a sitar playing the riff at the beginning, but they were unsatisfied, so Jeff Beck decided to try and get a similarish sound out of a distorted guitar. Great fucking tune either way.Artie Fufkin wrote:Nice find!

Electric Head, I know... however it stands to reason that if someone can play one plucked string instrument well, that ability will have some transferability. I suspect that them being 'worlds apart' is an exaggeration. I would expect that statement if I said that being a guitarist might help with playing the oboe, or something.

Edit: I haven't got round to actually trying this vst out yet. Gonna go and have a play about.
Re: free sitar synth
Oh man I have to try this out! If it sounds good I can finally put the sitar sound in my cover of Petrol & Chlorine by silverchair
Thank you for posting this, I never thought to look for a sitar plugin

You cannot learn Sa Re Ga Ma PA Da NI Sa, without proper training. With guitar you can learn from youtube, with Sitar it takes years and years to just learn the notes and SOLFEGE (saying the notes you are playing), then you gotta learn the Indian rythms that go with it, like teental /16 beats is the hardest.. Even tuning a Sitar takes a long time to learn. it has about 20 strings and 13 sympathetic strings... You will need a guru just to start off with the basics. Then there is the the concept of FIFTHS in Indian Music. This in itself takes years just to gain an understanding.
It's not even close to playing a guitar, you are fooling yourself thinking that if you can play guitar that you can learn Sitar by yourself. I have studied Indian classical music for 20 years and still do not have a grasp. It is NOT easy!!

Anyways thanks for the link Fowles.

Well considering guitar is one of the easiest instruments to learn and sitar is one of the hardest in the world XDEbolaman wrote:<3.
