Seminal DJ mixes...?

Post by wub » Thu Mar 21, 2013 3:27 pm

DJ mixes that were game changers, basically.

June Miller's 2008 Experimental mix (ushered in the click & bass minimalist Exit records style of D&B)
Excision's Shambhala mix
FabricLive 37
Addison Groove's FACT Mix
etc

That sort of thing. For better or worse, for Dubstep or other. Suggestions? Wanting to build up my collection of the classics in case they are any I've been sleeping on.

DMZ @ John Peel Tribute as well maybe? Surely was one of the first times that their sound got such major airplay

DJ Hype cutting up some serious breakbeats and ushering in a sound that would eventually become Jungle.

Good thread Wub. Have to add:

- The Final Ruffage Sessions (4 hours). Before there was even a discussion of the house/dubstep crossover, the Hessle crew had already been bridging the gap for years.
- Daft Punk Essential Mix (1997). Anyone who's spent time with this will tell you, it's unforgettable.
- Ron Hardy Tapes http://www.gridface.com/features/ron_ha ... lists.html
- Old, old, Kode9 Rinse sets that I can't manage to find.
strictly vinyl. strictly rotary. strictly old men with beards.

I'm most definitely with you on the Ron Hardy Tapes as they were instrumental in the birth of House music.
When i saw this thread the first thing that came to mind was Daft Punks Essential mix, but i think only because it's such an amazing mix. I'm not sure if it's seminal, maybe it encouraged House producers to go back to more oldschool Chicago styles. It is the best essential mix of all time so I'm sure its quality encouraged other DJ's to put in more effort.

Oh and a most marvellous thread Wub :Q: :Q: :Q:

Listening to One in The Jungle before going out to some of my first Jungle nights was amazing. I was only 14, i felt part of something massive and i guess looking back i was. The scene really blew up around the time the BBC started with these shows, at one point i was going to 3 nights a week in Notts.
