Swamp 81 thread
Re: Swamp 81 thread
Stubborn Phase is up there, but don't think anything will top One Of Us.
Re: Swamp 81 thread
People probably wont admit it because of the dungeon association but i'll always remember it as a classicgarethom wrote:Stubborn Phase is up there, but don't think anything will top One Of Us.

Re: Swamp 81 thread
Yeah, this is what I expect, people gotta remember though that One Of Us kicked it all off, shouldn't look negatively upon it because too many people took it and ran with it. Can imagine it won't have as much impact if you listen to Youngsta/other dungeon shows on the regs, but I go back and listen to it every now and then, and it's so sick.southstar wrote:People probably wont admit it because of the dungeon association but i'll always remember it as a classicgarethom wrote:Stubborn Phase is up there, but don't think anything will top One Of Us.

Good shout. I always forget about One Of Us.. just doesn't seem like a Swamp release anymore. It doesn't have the tradition Swamp sound that the label has over time evolved.. but in so many ways its a perfect Swamp release. That sound has grew into a very stale, over played sound which is exactly what the Swamp label has turned into (by the sounds of it by no fault of their own, releases pushed back and the like). It started in one place, went two completely seperate ways and both have ended up with similar results.garethom wrote:Stubborn Phase is up there, but don't think anything will top One Of Us.

Re: Swamp 81 thread
recent releases might not have been as game-changing as "footcrab" and "work them". but IMO the recent mickey pearce was great. i think numbnut might be his best work yet, it's so subtle and beautifully pieced together, much more grown too than his previous work, which i'm already a big fan of.jsml wrote:feel you. recent stuff hasn't been very inspiring.bobsabarker wrote:i miss the originality and risk taking of the first few releases.

don't forget addison groove. while most of his recent work is much too exalted for my taste, "footcrab" and especially "work it" are timeless IMO.Phigure wrote:definitely agreeLiam92 wrote:I have to say I find Don't Ask Don't Get to be the best thing released by Swamp - one that didn't and still hasn't been rinsed to death tooMuncey wrote:Stubborn Phase EP is miles ahead of anything else on Swamp. I'm hoping Mickey has another release planned real soon. His last FACT mix was amazing

guessing this might be on the album of Zed's then either way this is the one I want! But saying that it is under the other alias so fuck knows but this is the one!

RE: favourite releases, from earlier in this thread:
The Swamp 81 back catalogue is really solid on the whole though. No fat at all, just a lean mean music machine. Big up Loefah & the crew.Shum wrote:Just wanted to say:

2727 is still the best release for me. Stubborn Phase, Don't Ask Don't Get and Swims are close runner ups

It's not like he dislikes Vivek or something.

Re: Swamp 81 thread
Footcrab still goes off tbf, just needs work. If its blended properly it can still sound fresh.
Re: Swamp 81 thread
i don't think it got old it was just battered to death at the time.
