Need to go to Glasto at some point, been wanting to go for ages! Also, once all the dance tents get announced, the lineup will be looking beefy, not to mention all the people who play after hours and all the unannounced acts that end up playing

Depends on the festival, but Glastonbury? Nah... I wouldn't go to Bloc if they didn't nail the lineup, who'd want to spend a weekend munted in a Butlins for shitty acts, but I've bought my Glastonbury ticket for the last 4 or 5 years before they've even announced the headliners. Of course you know that the lineup will be "good enough", but honestly, if they cancelled the 7 or 8 main stages for a year I'd still go - it's more about spending the best part of a week camped in the English countryside with a crew of mates amongst pretty much the biggest gathering of good people in Europe.

It's the only festival I know of where waves of spontaneous cheering continually traverse the site, for no reason other than the people are ecstatic to be on Worthy Farm again.

It's been too long. I can't fucking WAIT.

I've only ever really been to a few festivals; Outlook twice and Homelands years ago. After doing Outlook an English festival doesn't appeal to me at all, dread to think how much a beer is at a festival here nowadays, surely gotta be over £5 for a can

One or two, yeah... I've been going to about 3 or 4 a year for the last 14 years. And no, it's never felt the same as Glastonbury. Roskilde came close, but only close.

And about a million day festivals here and there, I can take-it-or-leave it with most of them. It would take terminal illness to make me miss a Glastonbury. It's special. It's the only festival I know of where I turn up not entirely sure if I'll bother to watch any music at all. If you haven't been, you won't get it - it's not just a massive outdoor gig.

This is one of the main reasons Glastonbury wins for me. Take your own drink as long as it's not in glass and there's no gate/searching between the camping areas and the stages like pretty much every other festival I've been to. Once you're in, you're in until you go home.

Roskilde wouldn't even let you take plastic bottles of booze near the stages unless you cut the tops off so they couldn't be chucked around... you pretty much had to buy from the overpriced beer tents and everytime you wanted to go between the camp and the stages there was a queue to stand in...

I've heard it happen elsewhere, certainly, but it's never a feature like it is at Glastonbury. Wednesday afternoon in the Jazzworld field to watching the first sunset in the Stone Circle is one of the most special atmospheres I can think of - no music, just a field full of people drinking cider, smiling at each other and cheering because they made it back for one more year. It seemed to start properly in about 2002 after the gap in 2001... everyone was just so happy to be home. That only really happens in crowds where some people have been going for decades - that's why Roskilde comes close, but most of the others don't really figure.

Any festival can feel like an adventure for the weekend warriors, but Glastonbury manages to feel like a home-away-from-home to its regulars at the same time. It's different from any other festival I've been to... this year will be my 12th (I think), and I'll do my best to go every time its held until one of us dies.
