"What is your biggest weakness?" -job interview questions

Post by Jhonny2x4 » Wed Apr 10, 2013 4:46 am

There are a million resources on the web, but most of them have painted strengths. I have a feeling that answering these with little weakness involved will actually hurt you just as much as giving an actual full fledged weakness, such as:

" I over-analyze things"

" I have difficulty multi-tasking"

" I masturbate too much."

Does anyone have any nice mediums that you can still have a good comeback for how you are overcoming the weakness?

What are your responses to this question?

Say something like "I struggle to work with people"

then say "I've taken up a team sport, and/or started seeing a councilor to help me feel more comfortable under group-work circumstances".

I can't tell if that's just a troll post or if you're actually serious....

I had a feeling you'd say that. But I was serious.

Tbh, I don't think there is much of a stigma for seeing a councilor unless your claiming to be psychotic. But that's just me.
Sorry for being so outlandish.

The problem with that answer is that business is all about person to person interaction. I think that would sink your opportunity immediately. Still, I appreciate your honest response.

What kind of position are you applying for? Entrance, Managerial?

It's entry type, but it's light-blue collar. It will be my first desk job with a cubicle if I actually land it.

It's mainly phone work though.

I tend to be honest about it, like "I sometimes let work preoccupy my mind outside of when I'm actually working or work too hard, and tend to get burnt out at times." or "I can be stubborn when given a task from management when I know there is a better/more efficient way to do it and they won't listen".
Just be honest about some character flaws that you have with how you work, your work ethic, people skills etc.
Most HR people ask this question to see if you're honest or full of shit and just saying what they want to hear.

Given those conditions I think saying something like "I don't work in groups particularly well" is near harmless.
You're not expected to be organizing actual work for other people, essentially just following the code of operations, and you're just going to be talking to people on a phone.

But fuck it, I'm an idiot.

Apart from telling the interviewer that you want to bang his wife, saying that you don't work well in a group is possibly the worst thing to say regardless of position.

What are your responses to this question?
"When first learning a new set of tasks within a new role, I do find I lean towards perfectionism to ensure I learn the process correctly"

Leaves it open ended, the person asking the questions can follow up with why you think perfectionism is a weakness, you can follow up with a comment about it being resolved quickly once you've learnt the process(es) etc etc.

I sometimes get carried away and make a mess of the job, then after a ten minute break try again but by then the passion is gone for the task and I'm just going through the motions and never finish that job.

I find myself having to buy new clothes regularly as I become too swole to wear my current size.

due to my depression/anxiety I often tend to be overly critical of my own work regardless of the actual quality of work

Not sure how that'd go down in an interview though
