Preventing Theft

Post by Dhinojosa94 » Sun Apr 14, 2013 3:18 am

As a DJ im breaking into the high end super rich club scene in my town, one of the things thats helping me out is my remixes of pop songs, which gives me a competitive advantage over other djs. Right now my dillema is that people want to DL my remixes, but i dont want other djs in town to get them cause otherwise i would lose this edge, anybody has any idea as to what to do? Ive been thinking of uploading 256kpbs which sound decent in laptops but crap in club sound systems, any other ideas?

Watermark it? It's not exactly theft if you let them DL it and then they use it

If you're in the US, get it copyrighted. Are your remixes legal? Toss in your DJ Name over the drop or something, and everybody will know who's track it is! It can help make your name bigger to people who might not neccessarilly know who's djing or what song is playing.

I was at an Excision concert and heard The Frims "Bassline Skanka" and it was the first time I heard it (and loved it, heavy mid-range!) so I thought it was an Excision remix. A week later I heard it on iHeartRadio and saw the artist was The Frim. Needless to say I was shocked and would've liked to know what the song name or artist was durin the concert so I could've bought it later :P

What I'd do is record the very best hour long mix you can do containing only your refixes, then chop the mix in to separate tracks and put it online as a zip of separate 192kbps MP3s, labeled correctly and with artwork, playlist, contact details, etc.

edit: but really, the pop artists you've re-fixed were probably even more concerned about theft than you are, and look what happened.

Hows that different than just bouncing out the projects in 192kbps? And as far as the pop artist being concerned, well im not making profit out of it, i just dont want other djs to have them since those remixes plus my originals have been landing me gigs recently

how so? most of the local "djs" just play one song after another just like if an itunes was set to shuffle, what im trying to do is something that sounds bad when its played really loud in a club set up

the songs wouldn't be the full length and therefore couldn't (or at least shouldn't) be mixed by other djs you plonker

you could always just not give them out at all if it's that much of an issue...

even if you give them out at a lower bitrate anyone can just convert them to wav and start using them at the club. i would hold on to what you have.
