Foxy Brown. Goes between looking like a budget A-Team/kids TV episode and a Tarantino film, some really crappy acting but it's got style.

He's not bad in Oblivion, he's just got this look on his face for most of the film that looks like someone has asked him to divide 3847 by 23 in his head.
My problem with him is that when i see in films these days i dont see the character he's playing, i just see Cruise. It's the same with Brad Pitt

Yeah this, especially when hes playing really odd characters. I always think to myself 'this isn't even acting, hes actually this much of a nugget in real life'.

Eyes wide shot, eh?
He plays a penist though, so maybe not that much of a change.

Actually thinking about it, eyes wide shot should've been called 'the penist'.
Talk about missed opportunities!!!!.

Oblivion.

Amusing yet very predictable story and borrows a lot from Moon (and maybe a bit of blade runner). Characters are shallow AS fuck. But I managed to finish it.
Some good visuals but it's the same old story with sci-fi these days. Nice visuals but lacking in depth all around.
Still, I have seen a lot worse in the last 5 years. Then again, it's not a very ambitious project.

Tom Cruise is not a good actor.

An actor is only as good as the direction he gets. (Apart from Willem Defoe and Nickolas Cage :h: ).
Very good actors tend to overact a lot of the time because of their ego and are only really good when controlled, but at the same time those actors are the ones who supercede the expectation of what actors can be capable of.
Like Jeremy Irons, Daniel Day-Lewis, Kevin Spacey or even Jim Carrey who are all hammy beyond recognition 70% of the time, but can be amazing.
Shia LeBeuf is in the new Lars Von Trier btw, which might seems like an odd choice but so did Kirsten Dunst before Melancolia.

Tom Cruise tend to work with terrible directors but when you have someone like Kubric it's another plane altogether. Think of how good horrible DiCaprio or Samuel jackson was in Django compared with their last 10 films or so.

Wrong. Good actors don't need directing.
