Does anybody have any interesting opinions about the new 8Dio dubstep library?

Why? Do you own it?

Care to elaborate on your thoughts? Or are you just speculating that its not for you cause of the layout, etc.?

From the videos there appears to be individual parts and such that may be useful?

Personally Im always scpetical about all in one genre packages. Especially because there have been so many well know and unknow companies trying to cash in on the filthy edm craze. Once youve bought and sold a lot of gear and software its not hard to make some accurate first impressions from a first glance.

Yea I hear ya. The only thing that really holds my attention here is the fact that its done by 8dio - high quality stuff, typically. I can't imagine its just cookie cutter crap like some of the other fly by night developers.

Yea, from what read (can't listen at the moment) it just sounds like a construction kit with some options and an interface (kinda like a Kontackt Instrument or something from EastWest). They say it includes 40 "core kits" "covering all corners of the dubstep realm". The copy is all very vague (which worries me as well). Disregarding quality for a moment, It seems like it's just a fancy construction kit, how much mileage are you going to get out of it versus cost?

I'm on my phone, so I can't have a good look at it. But is this like some sort of Dub-turbo thing?

Kinda. Its like an all in one but its a vst no stand alone? But yea its dubturboish I never heard of 8dio myself.

Yea I figured it was mostly a construction kit deal, too... but then I watched the second video as well where it shows some potentially useful individual parts.

Obviously its not for those who specifically like to design their own sounds within a synth. I think its more geared to those who want to compose something rather than tweak knobs or create their own patches (which, of course, there is nothing wrong with and naturally is way more unique).

I do think there may be some use here for a working composer who needs to churn out some dub style edm tunes for a commercial etc where time is limited and they certainly cannot create their own patches from scratch - nor spend hours modulating/applying fx or recycling samples.

This is just my thoughts and assumptions - I certainly don't claim to agree with or against the product.

It's definitely not a Dubturbo thing from what I understand. Maybe some intended concept is similar but 8dio is well known for working composers in the film/game/media realm with orchestral vst's etc. Certainly EDM is not their bread and butter background but they are considered top notch in the industry of professional composers as a whole (you are hearing their VST's everyday on TV and in major motion pictures and games).

And, yes, it is Kontakt based only. No standalone.

If that helps at all.

8Dio and SoundIron used to be Tonehammer but split with 8Dio doing more expensive/complicated libraries for professional clients as far as i understand... So what they poster above me said about it being geared towards library music/sworking composers is probably the case.

Ok. Yea. Would certainly be useful in that context.

i do not own it and have never used it. sorry to jump to conclusions but i just listened to the demos of "listen to the music of Dubstep" and it was just generic obnoxious nonsense that completely turned me off to the whatever it is. "dubstep" designer i guess you could call it. i'm skeptical of all specific genre kits because that's just how everything starts sounding stale and boring.

I'll record you free cat sounds whenever you want. I probably have home made cat videos on my phone. :Q:

The missus and I foster cats here in Madrid that have been abandoned/mistreated, until they're ready to find new owners to care for them.
