^ Totally. Say what you want about the guy, but Arnie exemplifies the whole "will to power" thing a little too well.

Re: Can I become Prime minister?
Just start a facebook page and talk loads of rhetoric and reinforce how serious you are etc etc and you will probably be surprised about the results. Just be sure not to affiliate yourself with either the left or the right, and sit thoroughly on the fence over most issues.

So to run I will need £500 (running as representative of the monster party in my area)
Thought i might run a Kick-starter campaign to raise the money.
Going to go off and work on the Info-pic and some policy's.
Any useful policies or changes anyone could recommend?

Re: Can I become Prime minister?
Update.
So whilst looking over the subject I found it quite interesting to do a social experiment in how far can "I become Prime Minister" with the side goal being to write a book on Social mobility.
What i have since found is a wide level of support. I began a closed face-book discussion in regards to policy's and it began to form. I then started to contact academics and authors of whos work i was being influenced by.
Now i have a new question to think about.. I could get the backing if i had a good enouth idea. Package.
To create a new party and use social media to get a connection between voting public and government.
At the very least awareness would be raised on the issues and the politicians in power would need to make counter-offers to voters and would either keep there promises or not once/if they won.
So how would you go about creating a social media party? I figure here is a good source of people with experience with that sort of thing.

If you're serious about getting into politics as a career option, you might wanna stop posting on here as the opposing party could use your music choice to discredit you.
Plus, not to be a dick... but without having rich donors of one of the main parties, you will never get your policies heard especially as an independent.
You also better have a deep understanding of all corners of society and the things that make it work(Economics, Law, Foreign Policies etc.) , with a view of improving them things or, y'know... we already have a bunch of twats pretending they do, so you would just be adding to that list.

If there was one candidate that I liked in any small way I might actually vote so go for it but I doubt you'd be allowed to be voted in if you catch my drift

Lets say I am less interested in running for Pm then I am in creating a party that is a viable option for people who would like to see constructive change.Pedro Sánchez wrote:If you're serious about getting into politics as a career option, you might wanna stop posting on here as the opposing party could use your music choice to discredit you.

I believe there are the right people out there with the right ideas, thoreys, policy's and systems that my aim is to create an appealing party for them together.
This party would at its least promote some possible solutions to current social problems and thus encourage other party's to act or fall under scrutiny when alternate methods of doing things are presented.
I agree with your points, credibility (this being even more important on an internet/forum based party, which in itself would gather interest) , the need for financial backing to access paid media (this was my first hurdle and one i can cross if the party ideology, mission statement and plan are conceive and plausible).
As in 2006 there were something like 326 partys founded putting forward multiple candidates each all losing (thats £500 per candidate) it is even more important that this new party idea be concrete.
All in all I am inspired to see what can be done from this social experiment and DSF has always been an interesting place for opinion, such as your concise points on why this wouldn't be the correct approach for a typical campaign.

Re: Can I become Prime minister?
If you're asking for ideas it sounds like you have none other than to be pm
which is a perfect credential: intense focus & a lack of commitment to particular policies.
So, presuming you are pragmatic enough to take up whatever ideas will get you there,
it's firstly a matter of accurately polling your electorate,
assessing what are the majority opinions about each issue,
putting these opinions together as a policy despite clashes of dogma,
expressing this policy forthrightly so as to attract attention
at a few thousand social events, including fetes & openings,
inspiring a campaign crew with your charismatic speeches and infinite flexibility
and Bob's your uncle, you'll be elected.
Then all you've got to do is persuade a few hundred other electees to join you and vote for you as there leader.
Maybe it would be easier to arrange a coup.

Re: Can I become Prime minister?
Originally it was to create a form of Unselfish Capitalism but the more i learn about the economic side of capitalism the more distant i feel from it. I looked into Keynes theory but was left thinking this is only picked up when we are in a recession and isn't flexible enough.Lucifa wrote:where do you stand economically
I was then pointed to listen to David Harvey from Mr James and now don't even think the political system is a good idea anymore... I have taken the steps forward to educate myself yet find myself 10 steps back.
In regards to Keynes throrey here is a quote that lead me there via Jame's work.
"" Like Hutton, James also provides an impressive battery of statistics to support his claims: most notably a recent World Health Organisation survey which categorically proves (if any further evidence were needed) that as of 2007 rates of mental illness (which James prefers to euphemistically call "distress") have doubled since 1973, the year which saw Keynsianism buried under the triple avalanches of the unraveling of the Bretton Woods monetary system, the first oil shock and stagflation. This was an economic philosophy which had governed the West since 1945, underpinned by the belief that government spending on society’s infrastructure can inflate economic growth and the well-being of the population. Keynsianism is clearly what James is alluding to when he talks about Unselfish Capitalism, although at no point does he adequately define it. Had he done so, the younger or even older less-informed readers, who have probably spent much or all of their adult lives living through Thatcherism, would have a counterpoint with which to contrast ""

I am currently asking people if they know of any good economic systems. I am currently interested in the Austrian school of thought on the matter and will return to answer your question when i have a response I am comfortable with.

Re: Can I become Prime minister?
Wasn't Ronald Reagan an Actor with no political background? (Heard this on a building site; may not be true).
But yeah I don't see why not, give it a bash.
I like to think anyone can achieve anything if they put the work into it.

Re: Can I become Prime minister?
True up until a point, Regan didn't enter politics until 1945 (became President in '81) but his first acting role was 1937. He continued acting until 1964, with his last film being The Killers.DRTY wrote:Wasn't Ronald Reagan an Actor with no political background? (Heard this on a building site; may not be true
