i find modern rap so boring, rap used to have structures and rappers connected the verses between them with melody now all sounds like dancehall o reggeton that the formula is stoping at the end of every sentence and making all the end of the verses ending with the same sound and tone. of course they are good rappers but the general level is meh...

and rap baseline are now so boring... its just a deep deep bass pooomm pommm pommm poooom same as trap

what happened with stuff like this?

older hip hop is great; rawer beats, emphasis on true lyricism... But I cannot say this new stuff is just shit man, maybe it is a generational thing I dunno. I wouldn't compare lil b to tribe called quest though, its just two different genres even

and johoosh that freestyle's cool, not at the ugly mane level though yo, he didnt explain refraction m8. mista thug isolation is a work of art imho. uk hiphop's under-rated, once again i seem to prefer the funny guys though, like trellion & sniff :corndance:

If it is a joke then fair enough, but i'm not sure it is (fairly sure it isn't). Like that based god bloke - wtf? Is it a joke? I can't work it out.

Basically this
Terpit wrote:I cringe at most of the rap that gets posted on here
okay imma be real about it real quick, but the thing with lil b clearly isn't serious, but it also isn't a joke or some sort of troll act like a lot of people say. i think it'd be wrong to call it a parody however, since parody is defined as "an imitative work created to mock, comment on or trivialise an original work, its subject, author, style, or some other target, by means of satiric or ironic imitation," and that's not really what lil b is up to.

the best word for it is probably camp, in its strictest definition
"an aesthetic sensibility that regards something as appealing or humorous because of its ridiculousness to the viewer"

it's just lighthearted, endearing exaggeration.

also it's worth mentioning that the above is really just in reference to what is just a fraction of lil b's real output (the camp stuff just tends to be more popular, especially on the internet). he has a lot of serious stuff in diverse styles, everything from the stuff he did with clams casino to what most people would call "real" hip hop

edit: what mason and jizzman said about modern hiphop etc, is spot on. it's stupid to try to compare the two, they're like different genres. the "real" stuff is still there if you look

When I say that I'm mainly meaning the rapping especially. Although there is also a tendency to focus too much on the past in general with UK Hip Hop.

Also. I would say people are too precious over the genre. Yes I like hearing good rappers who can write interesting lyrics and I feel that it's unfortunate that there are becoming less rappers who really blow me away in that respect but if I'm in a club smashing some beers in then all you want is music that mirrors that. Also I'd rather hear someone saying something entertaining that makes me laugh than a lot of the painfully too try hard "deep" rappers about these days. Plus the worst thing ever is the "I listen to real hip hop because I have a Jurassic 5 CD, all modern rap is awful" brigade. I'd rather listen to Gucci Mane make fart sounds with his armpit for an hour than hear another white guy in a beanie and baggy trousers rap about how they make real hip hop over a load of played out straight obvious loops from funk records.

Far too many to list and pretty much all of it has resulted in "yeah the beat is reasonably nice but this rapping is horrible"

He's entertaining, pretty damn funny and stands out as being original though. Rather listen to that then some "I smoke blunts everyday, watch out for the illuminati" over 90s boom bap clone beats that a large number of UK guys do now.

unless you straight up don't like the whole premise of any hiphop (fair enough), hiphop is such a huge beast with so many different styles, eras etc that theres something for everyone, that's the beauty of it.
