his freestyle with Jay-Z and the '98 Freestyle (the 5 minute version) are both awesome, but ya also need to check out his parts of the C.O.C. style with the rest of Children Of the Corn (Ma$e is also awesome here back in '94):

- there is also a 15 minute version out there somewhere!
(and sound quality on youtube clips are actually as good as it gets)

"exporting Coogi and Gucci, that's my duty // fuck a big booty groupie, need a fruity cutie hoochie with lots of loochie" (loochie = loot?)

EDIT: part 2 to complete the 15 minutes are here:

old school rappers are always eulogised and overrated.

Big L is nowhere near old school, and he was praised by those that knew him when he was alive as well.... I honestly don't think it's a martyr thing with him (apart from when hearing Full Clip with Gang Starr) - he is acknowledged for raw talent.

Big L is loved by people with backpacks who weren't even in school when he died and usually hate/haven't heard all the decent hip hop they actually grew up with (often don't even rate his affiliates like cam'ron )

it's an image thing

not overrated outside the game but inside the game definitely. A lot of it comes down to the shitty production he had to work with as well.

He's a great battle/punchline MC with a complex flow. But dunno I'd rate him as highly as an overal songwriter.

In that aspect and even skill/stylewise, he's pretty similar to Crooked I. I'd listen to a freestyle of both of them and pick-up my jaw afterwards, but I'm less engaged by their songs.

...but 10 years ahead of him?
I find L's style of flow to be much more smooth and versatile, and his metaphors without any pc limitations. But yeah, he's a harlem battle mc, so his lyrical content is pretty narrow - does'nt bother me though.
