EQ question
Why is it when I hi-pass a sound that has anything in the low ends it causes an increase in output volume?

Attenuating a frequency causes a phase shift of other frequencies which can lead to a higher peak value.

Linear phase EQ, which has other drawbacks such as pre-echo or pre-ringing. Minimum phase eqs only have post-ringing which is masked by the singnal it self and therefore less noticable. This article (with video) explains the difference between minimum phase and linear phase eqs. This one is about EQ and the phase shift.
