I saw Breakestra with Chali 2na a few years ago and they were absolutely on it. Doing James Brown style transitions between tunes, just 2/3 horn stabs and straight into the next one, smooth as. hmm i think the pauses in between tunes is what kills it so that sounds good
but every time ive seen an act w/o a dj thusfar there have been those terrible pauses

I don't know what live bands with MCs you've been seeing tbh
I can see why you dislike the pauses in between tunes but tbf its part and parcel of going to see something live. For me i still find MC's with bands to be interesting & more interesting than the standard DJ combo, as sick as that is as well.
Dr Syntax's Mouse Outfit, Breakestra, Dizraeli & The Small Gods, etc. All smash it

tbf most of the times i've seen mcs with bands they've been at bigger festivals
i don't really like the sound of a standard drum kit played live with rappers over it tbh, duno why really
