Which EQ

Post by Hashkey » Sun Jun 02, 2013 11:41 am

Would you buy between :

Neve 1073 1081 and 31102 ?

I liked a lot the 31102 looks kinda 3dimensional.

Any suggestions?

They are mic pre's in the first place right? Depends completely on how much you can spend.
I'd say get some expert advice off-line before spending several thousand on an amp :D

Where would you get the 31102?

Gonna go out on a limb and suggest the OP is looking at the plugin versions from UAD, not original Neve hardware.

Doesn't UAD let you demo them?

I dunno. I was clicking through my friend's plugins cause he got the quad core card, and I don't think he can use any of them cause they're like $100 each on top of the $$$ for the card.

Yes but I'm very undecided.

The 31102 Sounds very warm to my ears but maybe I'm wrong.
Plus The price is quite high which makes me more undecided.

Well take a pragmatist approach. A/B them together and with other plugins you're using over a variety of applications. Is there one UAD plugin that stands out? If so, there's your answer, if not, how much does it really matter then? Now does that plugin stand out compared to the plugins you already own? If so, probably worth the purchase, if not, save your money.

I can understand wanting other opinions too though. It's like A/Bing your own impressions with those of other people. Ultimately it comes down to what you like though. I don't have an UAD card so I can't offer my perspective unfortunately. I'd search gearslutz or make a thread if you don't find anything.

Why an emulation of these classic eq's, I don't see how it's worth the money for the average bedroom producer.
In that case, I'd get their Cambridge EQ or the Sonnox one. Nothing but good reviews on those.
I only use the Sonnox ones from time to time and can't find anything wrong with it.

Just use the stuff that comes with your DAW until you're no longer confused.
