what is this the fucking slate Mala / DMZ crew? I feel like you guys aint even taking in the dates these tune were even made? Hunter saw a release in 2007. Wouldnt surprise me if it was made around 05 at the very beginning. These sounds were new and so crisp unlike any other before it. I can only imagine what that sounded like for the first time on a system.

I agree that the worship of Mala on his facebook page etc is ridiculous and somewhat cringeworthy, but mans undeniably got SEVERAL of the best tunes in the game.

Mala has made a few stinkers but he's no way overated. He's made some of the best underground music the world has seen.

Jah power
Lean forward
Misty winter

Those three tunes are the pinnacle of our scene in my opinion.

Coki is still pretty sick in his own right IMO. Mid June Madness and Tree Trunk go off so fucking hard.

Also, his production is the best in the game. It's so rugged and raw, you can really "feel" every element of the track. Like The Bug, only better.

Not saying Coki > The Bug in general, but Coki's production and "sound" is similar to The Bug's, only even ruffer and thus better. Listen to those delayed, heavy-as-fuck crashing, disorted drum hits and ragga samples man!

mala in cuba when it first dropped was a bit over-rated.

not enough to mention itt though. lean fwd is the definition of what the sound is imo.

this. they are the pioneers so is imposible to overrate them. different is that newfags idolize the myth more than the music... and hunter is amazing, it was the first mala tune played in dmz and it really went off

You are allowed to say they are overrated, while anti war dub is great it gets too much love also Haunted > anti war dub.

Surprised no one's said 26 Basslines

and yes i've heard it on a system, I like the tune, just don't think it deserves all the attention it gets, especially when there are MUCH better tracks on that album. even then, imo Newstep > Diary

How is Diary better than newstep? I can honestly think of like one bad track on Newstep. I mean sure, B4 the Dual, Night, and Emotions are all great but it just drops off halfway through.

newstep is better purely for the blues.
