Your ISP might be having troubles with youtube or throttling it. I had the same issue with sky yesterday but when I went through a proxy 720p was perfect again.

It streams fine, there's no buffering. Just don't like the thought of my poor old computer having to do all that legwork at the same time. Surely quality is reduced

my youtube keeps automatically changing to 240p whenever i watch anything so i have to change that and reload it every time

if u right click and hit something that says "stats 4 nerds" you'll see by the rate of streaming that it either says httpvideoplayer or tagstreamplayer. http allows you to load the whole video. tagstreamplayer does not. not sure on how to always use httpvideoplayer though.
