Anyone else get the email about having alcohol confiscated unless you're carrying it? The eFestivals forum is going nuts at the moment :D

I was planning on carrying it all anyway, but must be a pain for those who are relying on trolleys

Just got it;
Dear Festival Goer,

We are writing with some information about the use of alcohol at this year's Glastonbury Festival. We would very much appreciate it if you would read through this information.

'CHALLENGE 21'

We shall be operating the 'Challenge 21' policy whereby if you look under 21 you will be asked for identification. It is illegal to buy alcohol if you are a minor so please note you will not be served if you are under 18 or if you look under 21 and do not have appropriate ID.

We are also trialling a 'Challenge 21 wristband scheme'. This means that if you look under 21 you can show your ID once, and get a wristband that demonstrates that you are over 18. The wristbands are available from the Property Lock-Ups - see the site map for their locations. (You can also deposit your ID in the Lock-Ups for safe-keeping.)

The wristband scheme is voluntary and you can still get an alcoholic drink without a 'Challenge 21' wristband - as long as you are over 18 and can prove it, if challenged, by bar staff.

ALCOHOL ADVICE

The misuse of Alcohol is potentially dangerous, so if you or your friends want advice, information or assistance we have many support systems available on site. In an emergency contact a steward or security guard or alternatively you can go to an Information Point where they will be able to help you.

BRINGING ALCOHOL ON SITE

Glastonbury is the only major UK festival that allows you to take alcohol into the event. However, we need to encourage reasonable consumption and discourage over-consumption, so there are some provisions.

1. Any alcohol brought onto the site must be for personal consumption only
2. No glass bottles can be brought onto the site
3. You must be able to carry your alcohol yourself, without using any wheeled devices, including trolleys, wheelbarrows and wheeled suitcases.
4. Any Alcohol which is brought to the gates using a wheeled device will not be allowed in, and may be confiscated

We hope you have a safe and enjoyable Festival.
Wasn't planning on drinking much anyway TBH, but even so :?

Yeah saw that yesterday, to be honest fuck taking all that shit it. Its a mission enough carrying your stuff plus tent.

I think I took drink the first year and didnt even finish it as you have to lug it everywhere and buy mixers unless you like warm flat cola.

Ciders not that pricy and I mean theres plent of other stuff about.
Might bring a token bottle of Rum just because mind you.
People come with like wheel barrows LOADED with drink, stuff taped to the sides, old ladys shopping trollys stacked to the hilt with cans aswell.
Price inside VS Effort of hauling warm drink in is huge as you can walk 3 miles before you even hit a camping spot

Bestival they had a bottle exchange at the gate where you could pay a £1 and get a plastic container (think it was deposit so you could get the £1 back at the end?) to transfer into.

Bought in a large bottle of Chivas that I ended up giving away by mistake whilst in the depths of a k-hole. C'est la vie.

Yeah, definitely remember to decant your booze - I just heard that they are going to take a dimmer view than usual of people transporting in crates of beer on trolleys, but anything able to be carried by hand or in your pack is fine... might be best to make sure you're taking spirits!

I normally just take some rum and vodka and then use the bars for beer/cider, but being able to keep a few crates at camp has always been a winner in the past - hopefully it's just people getting over-worried about the terms and conditions.

Lia bailed in the end as she couldn't afford to settle the balance on her ticket whilst moving flat, so it'll be Me and V, plus a couple of mates of mine from Somerset (and their ladies, I think) plus my brother (well, he's working so probably camping backstage somewhere) and my old housemates Nik and Hattie (think you probably met them at Halloween).

Everyone from my lot is primed to head to The Park... probably park West side and try to come in near the Farm. Park Home Ground or Dairy Ground are normally pretty good shouts!

Edit: Map's too big to post : http://cdn.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/d ... MAP-v2.png

Just sent you an FB btw... :W:

Yesssssssir! :h:

Best camping of the festival IMHO... it's always a nice mix of people up there and you can get everywhere pretty quickly. I rarely end up watching anything on The Park stage, but it's fun around there after hours with the Bimble and the Rabbit Hole... easily walkable to/from Shangri La/Arcadia... and the underground piano bar... ;-)
