HAALP!!!!!!!!

Post by IheartU » Sat Jun 15, 2013 1:19 am

Hey there, new to the forum. I need some major help.I plan on buying FL Studio 11 this summer for my PC but i plan on upgrading to Reasons. I also want a Mac, but hopefully i can get that in the future. My question is, should I go ahead and get FL Studio 11 for the PC. OR, should invest in a Mac + Reasons. I know Reasons is available for PC, i just want the DAW to run flawless without any glitchy crap. I'm on a budget of $200 so I think the Producer Edition is good enough to make dubstep/prog. house/trap/d'n'b right? So again; FL OR PC+REASONS 7 ALSO!! if you purchase download NI Massive on a pc, can you switch it over to your mac? or do you have to purchase it again? Thank You!

Also, pretty sure Reason works on PC ...FWIW...but no you can't make any of those genres with FL Studio or Reason.

EVERYONE knows you can only make EDM on a 20" Macbook Pro with an i7 quad core processor with 16 GB of RAM, a ASUS Xonar Essence STX soundcard, a Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 -- to make the knobs look more shiny, when running at 8192 × 8192 -- and running the latest version of Ableton Live. That's why most soundcloud users' music sounds so shitty -- they don't want to make the investment.

Anyone telling you differently is trolling.

You seem to be looking at things a little wrong here. Going from FL11 to Reason is not an upgrade. DAWs do not have a progressive level to each one. Sure some may be more difficult to learn than others, but that doesn't make it better. Buying FL now and then buying Reason later is just a huge waste of money. You should really find out which program you want to use first and then buy that program.

Since you have a 200 dollar budget, well, Reason is out of the question. I think Reason 7 is like 450 dollars assuming you don't have the limited or essential version in which case then it's only 329 dollars.

Your 200 dollar budget really cuts down your options. The producer edition of FL will be just fine for whatever you want to make. You should know that the 200 dollar version does not grant you access to some of the newer, and nicer plugins. But it should suit you just fine.

Assuming you go the FL route you'll be blowing your whole wad on the DAW so you won't have any extra cash for plugins. Don't worry though. There's tons of free VSTs out there if what FL offers doesn't really appeal to you.

If you don't want to spend the full 200 on FL though there are some cheaper options. Reaper is a fully functional DAW that offers pretty much everything every other DAW offers. But it's only 60 bucks! Which is pretty crazy.

As far as the Mac or PC question. It doesn't matter what you are using. If you have a PC and you are comfortable with PC then there's no reason to switch. It makes no difference. Most programs can run on both platforms. Also keep in mind that switching means you now not only have to learn the program, but also the computer you are switching to if you have no experience with it. This means even more time spent learning technical things rather than making music.

For any other questions you might have, check out this thread.

not sure which DAW you're using and I don't know how reason or FL work, but in my DAW, you have to be "armed to record" in order for your keyboard to make noise. make sure the volume is turnt up too, obviously.
