Science tells us how the world is it doesn't tell us how the world ought to be. If we discriminate based on science it's not a failing of science it's a failure of our morals.

I do want to return to the idea that religion and science are somehow telling us different stories of world or at least telling us stories of different parts of the world. It's a concept understood by some atheists and some religious. Non Overlapping Magisteria I think is flawed and I think suggesting that there are questions science can't answer is a pretty dangerous position to hold. Why would we close the door on what science can tell us? Another problem is that it cedes to religions some domain of responsibility that it hasn't earned and not earning that domain makes telling us of that domain less interesting.
