The Wonky Wonk

Post by theBanktella » Sun Jun 23, 2013 2:45 pm

so ive been making "dubstep" now for bout 5 years or so, but more the rooticle deeper vibes, ive recently been really liking the how do i call it wonky vibes the sounds of requake, badklaat, drbloodnugget, doomtrooper, and some of kromestars , my question is what is the trick to achieving those basslines like slight tips that give the track that "wonk", ive been fiddling with the ramp lfo setting more, than the conventional sin one, ive tried the velocity tracking, on the lfo to make the womp slightly diff on each one, are there any particular way on programming those drums or hats to make it sound offish but right in a way, o ist just kick snare kick snare kick snare, or should i just use reason cors ive noticed most of those wompy guys use it that gives them the signature wonk, ive been pretty stumped wit making it yet thort it to be a bit easier seein that it seemed more repetitive in my opinion but still hella hard to make,

heres an example of one i made

Real nice vibe, nice work. one thing i learn't about adding a wonk/shifted wub is link your lfo/automation to a separate controller where you can edit the follow acceleration to create a shift/swing
A Track of mine you may like to hear

Really enjoyed that. Well balanced track. Nice wide, clear sound. Well done!
I'm quite a newb so I can't really advise munch on the wonky sound you are after. Maybe try two lfos on one parameter with different settings? And for the drums, reason has a "shuffle' option, which might help. Or try dropping in the sounds with snap to grid off...helps me get a more natural slightly off sound.
Where is the vocal sample from?
