When do you make your sounds?
When do you make your sounds?
Just a thought, I've noticed sometimes I make quite a few patches in massive, fm8 etc and then use some of them in an arrangement and then build some more patches as I work through the track. Othertimes I build the patches from the start of the track as I go.
What would you say is the better method? The idea of creating a bunch of patches before and then trying to get them to fit together seems messy. Building them as you go takes more time but you kind of know what your looking for in a way. I ask because on some tracks I get to a point where I just cant find any patches or any sounds that suit the song and have to step back and start designing again.
What do you guys do and think about this?

Re: When do you make your sounds?
as you go. I think a track has to mesh well and really fit together in a meaningful way in order to be "good". if you design your sounds and arrange them on different days, I think it's harder to make that happen.
also, use production sub-forum.

And oh yeah, doh!
Re: When do you make your sounds?
There is no right method. Key is to save save save. If you make something you like, save it!

Re: When do you make your sounds?
I mean I'm not saying you can't save like a sine sub bass or some drum samples, etc, and come back to them on a different day, but I think the sound design for most of the elements in a song should happen in the same session. of course it's possible to do it on different days, but you're more likely to end up with something that just sounds like a collection of sounds instead of a coherent song if you do the sound design in different sessions

Milanese buys some gear, makes all sorts of crazy sounds on them and records them and then sells the gear.
