Audacity sine wave - movement??
The Audacity sine wave is sick! But if I were to sample it to use as my sub bass, how would I get some movement in it. I don't really mean an lfo kind of movement, I mean that 'reesey' detuned kind of movement. Obviously once I've sampled it, it's sampled in the state that it came out of Audacity. Is there a way of detaining a sample?
I was thinking maybe layer the sampled sine wave a few times and pitch up/down each layer slightly. Would this work?

it's all about y = sin(x), no difference between some vst's sine wave and audacity's sine wave.

Just bounce the sine out put it in your wavetable synth or sampler and detune it there.
Or slightly change the pitch for your sine, then copy it and change the pitch equally into the other direction and bounce that.
But your DAWs native synth probably reproduces a pure sine, just play a note and look at it in a frequency scope. Those analog modeling ones probably don't have a pure sine, but simple synths usually do.

if you really want to use it with a sampler, you might try a chorus effect or the mda detune plugin to get that detuned layers sound.
If I were you, I'd just use a synth with multiple oscillators that you can detune. most synths have sine wave oscillators and can detune oscillators. that's the basic starting point for a reese, but with saw waves instead of sines.

Re: Audacity sine wave - movement??
Thanks for the comments. I know synths are more than capable of producing a sine wave, that's what I generally use in my tracks. But after watching the Phaeleh masterclass, where he says all his sine wave sub bass' are sampled from audacity, I thought I'd give it a try; and I'm glad I did, audacity produces a very nice sine wave that I like for the style of music I've been working on recently.
Changing the pitch in either direction equal amounts was what I thought; but would the subtle detuned 'wobble' speed up/slow down as you go up or down the keys, as a reeese does.
Chorus effect might work well for some extra movement. Whats the mda detune plugin like? Never heard of it :/

Quick tip for getting that oldskool sine bass, load into sampler of choice and then play the next note up from the one you are already playing for some oldskool wobbly bass heard in early dnb

That's a classic jungle and dnb method used in old Akai samplers
Like looping a cycle or 2 of the tail of an 808 kick for that specific kinda bass (808's just a sine/env)
Here is some relevant infos http://www.dubbhism.com/2008/10/basswat ... enter.html

But why would you use it now? We have LFOs.wormcode wrote:That's a classic jungle and dnb method used in old Akai samplers

Haha they had LFOs too... since the 70smromgwtf wrote:But why would you use it now? We have LFOs.
An LFO is just a low freq sine/saw/square etc wav.

Re: Audacity sine wave - movement??
you mean, for example play E1 and F1 at the same time and it makes the volume oscillate.
I've found you can make more complex oscillations by using 3 notes. you have to work with a little more to get it to go with a beat, but it's something you wouldn't do with an lfo.
heres the link for the mda detune plugin. http://mda.smartelectronix.com/effects.htm
it's kinda buggy, and for me I have to turn it on and off after changing the parameters for them to change, but it's great for a detuning effect when using a sampler.
I forgot this plugin does the same thing pretty much. http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?id=1159
