Re: What game are you playing?
Just figured it out myself after reading it. Basically you get 4 random card drops for every 30 mins you're in a game that is participating, so 2hrs you get your 4 drops (can just leave the game running in the background).hugh wrote:what's this new trading cards thing steam are doing?
If you get the full set of all 8 cards you can craft a badge which earns your account xp or a coupon or some extra features like smileys or a profile background pic or some shit (not 100% sure on this).
You can also randomly get booster packs which let you get more cards or something like that.
Personally I've just been leaving the games running in the background while doing other stuff then flogging the cards on the marketplace and lowballing whatever the lowest current seller is on said card. Already made a couple bucks onto my Steam wallet.
Way I figure it since it's brand new there isn't a total market saturation on them yet so can still make a few bucks before the bottom drops out.
Re: What game are you playing?
ah right so it's like a credit system where you earn these badges simply by playing games? That's kinda cool.

Re: What game are you playing?
Well you earn 4 random cards and the complete set to make the badge is all 8 cards. In those 4 random drops you can also get doubles of the cards. Hence where the booster packs, trading and buying them comes in.
Pretty genius of Valve tbh as they earn a percentage on every sale on the marketplace, they're essentially printing money just like TF2 items.
Edit: http://steamcommunity.com/tradingcards/ here's the whole thing laid out by Valve.
Working out pretty well for me so far, sold every card I've earned by leaving the games running while working.

Just finished the first chapter of The Walking Dead. Was great stuff, looking forward to the next episode now. Bought all of them in the steam sale a while back.

^me too
also deadly i thought i'd add not all games are 4 drops and 8 cards total.. some are as low as 5 and i think tf2 has 9.. you can earn roughly half through the initial purchase of the game, then through booster packs or spending money in the store.. crafting a badge can earn you actual store coupons for discounts so selling the cards is the short term reap and reward system

Re: What game are you playing?
Well coupons are kinda worthless to me since I pretty much have most titles I want, plus they can't be combined with normal Steam sales usually and all the cosmetic stuff I could care less about.
Netted about $7.50 today just selling cards so works for me.

yep figured the situation you're in places you in a better position... also wasn't aware coupons couldn't be combined with sales

Just got Rogue Legacy yesterday and it's brilliant.
One of those games you can spend hours playing due to its randomly generated content like Binding of Isaac, FTL, Super House of Dead Ninjas etc and extremely accessible for the casual player.

Just finished Telltale Games' The Walking Dead Episodes... absolutely stunning, loved every second. Out to Grillis for the recommendation
I haven't enjoyed a game that much for a very long time. Looking forward to season 2 and their new game as well (The Wolf Among Us)

pretty disappointed seeing as my computer's specs should be easily enough to run it.

*edit - ok, so just played for the last hour or so and it's a blast. It's actually a lot more difficult than I was anticipating, any tips dh?

Re: What game are you playing?
Bought the newest Hitman the other day, it's different from the others, easier (that's not a problem cos I was shit at hitman) but I'm really enjoying it. Bargain at £8 and all

Hell I only just beat the first boss yesterday and got to the second one and I've sunk in about 10 hours so far, though I did reset my save to redo my skill tree early on.hugh wrote:just about to play rogue legacy, hope it's fun

I'd say go for miner and the spelunker upgrade as soon as possible so you can maximize your gold to get more upgrades. Other than that learn what each of the traits do and practice.
I tossed up some archives of me streaming it from twitch onto my youtube if you wanna take a gander.
