You cannot be serious? Websites look better on a pc? LOL
Pixel perfect screen - none of the shitty anti-alias bollocks. What ever you do, there is always a tutorial for it....on windows.
And you will need all those tutorials trying to keep your computer free from spyware, viruses and other crap that is 99% for pcs only.

I'd say it's becoming more 70 - 30 now. And even then, with Vista it's almost hard to get a virus these days on your computer with the UAC turned on. You know, I ran Windows XP for almost two years and when I finally installed a virus scanner I had one worm that was adware. So, I'd say it's more of a user then a OS thing.

I've been working for almost 10 years now equally both on Mac and Pc and I just bought myself a HP Pavilion DV 9396. Why? Because I got one hell of a deal on the Pavillion and I like Windows much more then OsX. BUT, it has to be said, Windows runs smooth on the new Intel Macs.

So in the end I guess you buy what you need. If it's only for producing, e-mail, gaming, browsing the web get yourself a cheap Acer or something. But if you need a quality screen then go for the new Sony Vaio, HP Pavillion or Macbook ...

To be fair, Macs are very good, possibly better than PCs, but its too late for me... The dark side for me.

And don't give me that Luke Skywalker, "I can sense the good in you!" chat!

Also, the whole "computer as lifestyle" thing? Not feeling that to be honest. Its a black box that lives under my desk. I define my lifestyle, not the objects that I own.

RANT OVER

To be fair all laptops, regradless of brand, have problems with battery degradation - its not just a PC problem

And it usually takes a couple of years of regualr to heavy use to get the battery life down to 45 mins

mac fanboys make me laugh. i'm no supporter of microsoft (never bought any of their software) but alot of mac users think they are superior just because they are different and they can't right click on things. yes macs are reliable, yes you aren't putting money in microshit's pocket, but you can't run half the programs/plugins you want to, and you only get one mouse button (WHY?) my mouse has like 7 buttons, perfect for games and right clicking on things. its also easier to pirate programs on pcs, which is always good.

i'd say stick to what you already know. if you are more familiar with the windows way of doing tings, get a pc. if not, or windows just isn't for you, then get a mac. more people use PCs, so if you have one of them you will encounter fewer problems with file formats, programs and drivers. you say it's for uni, so if you are already familiar with PCs then having a mac could waste your valuable time getting to know how to do shit.

its an age-old debate, and at the end of the day it's down to personal preference.

I've got a 24" Mac screen right in front me of. And those are some nice screens to work on :)

I mean, cut of the price of the 17" Macbook Pro in halve and I switch immediately (with Windows running on it of course). But paying 1800 pounds for a laptop which is equally good as my Pavillion but almost three times as expensive is just ridiculous ...

I feel you on the Mac mouse.
You can use a PC mouse on a mac and right click, middle click, scroll up, down left right, whatever. I hate Macs' Mice, but I would DEFINITELY go with a Mac. Run windows on it if you want. Don't use a Mac mouse and you're set.

that is ALOT of money for 80gb hd and 2ghz cpu if you ask me! you could buy two dell laptops with similar specs for the same price, then play turn based strategy lan games against yourself 8)
