The changing of "stop and search" laws in the UK

Post by anadin_xtra » Tue Jul 02, 2013 3:41 am

So finally it looks like this ridiculous law will revised

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23140505

Never personally been subject to any search based on this but a lot of good friends have, basically based on their appearance/ police officers "hunches"

I cant see this changing anything tbh. There will always be a "burglary in the area". Muggy Mugsworths. :u:

I know mate it's ridiculous. We were pulled the other day in my mates car by a meat wagon, before we had even got out I said to my mates this will be for a burglary in the area as obv we hadn't done anything wrong. The police looked so baffled when we laughed at them after they told us why we had been stopped. Half of the 6 or 7 police dicks standing there just looked embarrassed after that and couldn't look us in the eye. The other half I pressume initiated it and deserve nothing less than death.

It was blatant systematic racism being carried out under guise of policing the streets, they were stopping young black kids in school uniforms ffs.

Sounds to me like they just want to keep stop & search, just have less paperwork?

Funny way of thinking about it, most likely they know it pisses people off and can land them in shit for over-doing it. It's not like the paperwork's hard, they love the process for intimidating people.

As one exampe, near the Arndale centre there's a road that goes to meanwood and EVERY TIME I go there they're either parked off in a side street facing the road or driving past. They will stop and ask what your name is, where you've been, what you've been doing etc and their excuse EVERY TIME is "This is a high crime area so we're stopping people". Nothing mentioned about an actual crime or you look suspicious, they're literally just stopping you for the sake of it and will bully you in to complying with them by blocking your exit etc. At the bottom of the hill on the same road about 5 minutes away you will also likely find a bull car or van parked illegally on double yellows outside fucking Waitrose...

Is it not right that you don't have to give your name unless a serious crime has been committed in the area?

Or just be lucky!

If you read OP article, you don't have to give your name at all unless you're suspected of something on 'reasonable grounds'. They can ask but you don't have to tell them otherwise

only got stopped once in manchester and that was because I'd actually done something 'wrong.'

London is a bit different, met are just blatant stnuc (though I also think theyre under a hell of alot more pressure than the rest of the country to meet numbers).

and of course I'm gonna give them my name if its a minor thing, dunno about you lot but I really cba with being pulled down the station for fuck all, rather just act all sweet and with any luck get to walk away in 15 mins. I just co-operate now, its fucking seriously cringey when you see these brew crew tramps saying 'I AM A SOVEREIGN FREEMAN OF BRITAIN MAGNA CARTA YOU ARE A POLICEMAN NOT A POLICE OVERSEER,' like the police give a fuck. 'Oh wow *checks ID* err.. chemical dave, I see you are a true scholar in archaic law and as such I'm not gonna nick you.'

fuck saying anyting else though, just smile.
