it doesn't work like that sadly

also minimum requirements are almost always higher than what is actually required, also try looking for modded drivers for your integrated GPU, I used to have an old dell with intel graphics and modded drivers let me play loads of games that wouldn't run at all otherwise
Rest is i5 2.5 and 4GB ram so that shouldn't be holding it back I think.
I'm talking about a macbook pro btw.

unfortunately i5 doesn't mean shit if its only 2.5ghz, the majority of applications/games nowadays are nowhere near properly optimized for multiple cores/threads.
ideally if you want to game you should get a gaming pc, even if its a budget one.

never heard any positive reviews of gaming on Mac.

Yea if a game isn't utilizing multicore a 2.5ghz i5 is going to perform worse than a 3.0ghz single core.

I am gonna preorder the new Rise of the Triad though, amped as fuck for that.
yeah, I get the feeling it will be even worse than shogun 2 in that respect, which was fucking awful. I don't own half that game, since half the content is DLC locked. But it is still happy to do a 5 GB download to update the files....
You realise the day 1 DLC is A: completely free if you pre-order and B: pretty much a required industry standard that all the major publishers do now, right? That's no reason to boycott it. There really wasn't anything wrong with the Shogun 2 DLC imo. Rise/Fall of the Samurai were huge and well worth the money, and you weren't compelled to buy the faction DLC if you didn't want. I didn't. And saying 'half of the content is DLC locked' is a bit rich, excluding the full expansion DLCs (which are bigger than the kind you used to pay $50 for retail), there's only 4 factions out of 12 and a few units that are locked.

I don't know whether I'm interpreting that wrong or if you actually mean the day one DLC costs $60+ cos you know... it's all free. Completely free. You get Pontus for simply owning the game and the Greek States for pre-ordering.

It's only free if you preorder is the issue, it's only industry standard because people take it even though I can't think of anyone but publishers who approve. It's a damn good reason to boycott, it's called voting with your wallet, I also refuse to buy any EA products because I hate their business practices.
Steam actually had a detailed list of all the day one DLC prices on the store page if you didn't preorder which they have since pulled, and it totaled over $60, the price of the base game.
If the content is ready on day one it should be included with the normal game package not sold at a premium.
Preordering is placing a gamble on an un-reviewed product, and frankly the last few times I did at this price point I ended up with some shitty games, also there is no real need for a preorder to reserve the game for digital because there is an infinite quantity.

I honestly don't need all of this shit :) I gave my gaming tower to my parents, so they can check their e-mail.
What I am interested in though, is why are modern games not optimized for multiple cores?
Are they tapping into that major market of people with single core systems?

Btw, I'm in no way an Apple fan.. but every single game ever runs beautifully on high on my friends Mac.

They are modern games only by age.
Their coding is not optimized for multiple cores.

Managed to pick up sleeping dogs for £10.

I get bored of GTA games pretty quickly but the setting for this looks better so I'll give it a go..

It's fun imo.
But it doesn't seem to have the frre roaming aspect of GTA down.

Radio stns, hand to hand combat, story etc. are what make the game.

I like the sound of that tbh. I never get anywhere with the story in gta, too much pissing around in police cars

to be honest i dont see why intel and amd are pushing for this "fit as many cores as possible into 1 cpu" attitude - people think that 8 cores = 8 times more powerful than 1 core
when really extra cores usually add less than something like 25% extra processing power, and thats with applications/games that ARE optimized for multiple cores.

they should work more on making the cores themselves more powerful

but i could be chatting shit i dont know much about producing microprocessors

and axed i think its just because programming for multiple cores/threads is VERY difficult/time consuming

it's because we're pretty much hitting the limits as far as clock frequency goes with current technology

Tbh it's more AMD than Intel that has been pushing for more cores. Though for gaming they might actually become more useful in the future since both the XB1 and PS4 have multicore architecture.

most non indie games that are released today (that aren't pure console ports) tend to support at least 2 core processing, if not 4.
8 is only useful if you are running servers, however most modern advancements in CPU tech tends to be more with the use of logic gates and other "intelligent design" that speeds up the CPU cycles.

Well beat boss 3 last night onward to boss 4 and hopefully NG+.
Also Cube World alpha is live, so gonna snag that as soon as the shop is back up as I've been waiting on this for ages.
400 Days of Summer DLC for the Walking Dead is supposed to be out for PC today as well.
It's a good week!
