This is looking very good with a lot of nice new tools, but my system is running so nicely that I don't know if I'm willing to rock the boat and upgrade for a while.

Still on Logic 5.5 on the pc - if I ever have a spare couple of grand I might invest but the likelihood of having a spare tenner kind of pisses on that dream

Yeah, just mentioning it because there are a few Logic users on here.

I'm going to hold off on buying it because I don't like being an early adopter.

//edit. I can probably install both versions at once. Damn. And the upgrade is pretty fairly priced. Click. Bought. It arrives tomorrow.

Yeah, I was shocked. Seems very fair, as in "Just what are they up to?"

To buy it new is half of what Logic Pro cost. Apple are really wheeling out the big guns with their hardware and software price drops.

hm, not so sure if these news make me happy...
logic is quite old software by now, and v8 hardly introduces new features
and i was hoping that some weaknesses would be changed in the new version
like the the bus-system, ultrabeat etc. maybe even 64bit as it would have been supported by the core2duo-processor..?
hm, now they only cut the price half it seems and removed the dongle... not a good sign for apple's priorities

hm, at least it's cheaper now...

For me, it's the workflow improvements. The best feature you can ask for, IMHO.

It looks way less fiddly...

That's going to be a massive improvement! Logic is/was just a bit too badly organised. It's been added to over the years, but never ever really redesigned from the ground up. Even if it didn't have any extra plugins, it would still be a good upgrade. People have wanted it Applified since the Emagic buyout and have finally got it. I think it's not exactly where they're wanting to take it yet, but this is the middle step.

The new delay designer looks good. There are improvements to the compressor plugins with impulse modelling now. You can reportedly do some wicked new bus routings and there's a bunch of other stuff. Icing on the cake, innit?

That price is Apple's priority and with good reason. The only good whine people seem to have left about them is that they're expensive, so they're doing something about that. Hardware down, Software down.

yea im with two oh one, the workflow improvements are what looks the best , the old ctrl p to bring up channel strip is a pain in the ace.

Removal of the damn xskey dongle? hozah!!! that thing sucks too, free up my usb slot on my laptop for a mouse.

other than that there doesnt seem to be too many useful upgrades

...unless they could cut resources in half or reduce the size of freeze files

or for me its £129 what a price and takes up 39gb of space........

10GB for Jam Pack collections 16GB for sound effects 6GB for surround music beds 7GB for other optional content.

I'm kind of annoyed cos I bought 7 Pro just before August 1st - the cut off for free upgrade.

Still, I'll definitely be buying it. That Delay Designer! SIIIIICK. Imagine.

Plus the new audio editing precision will be of great use for zoming in on audio hits etc.

Any new instruments?

This looks good and I think it is all about the workflow improvements, some of them I would benefit from but the rest I can just do in other ways... screensets, spotlight search for certain audio files / samples etc...

for me logic is still the number 1 program, I use cubase and reason at work but would still choose logic to use at home and like someone else mentioned I have v 7 pro running like a dream for my own tunes so I won't be even thinking about upgrading for at least 6 months cos there's bound to be a few bugs...

I'm also not to keen on the new garage band kinda look but its probably cos I’m used to the other way I suppose, I think it will be a lot easier for new logic users to navigate round

One thing that did surprise me is that there will no longer be an xs key; this would surely make it more crackable...

At £319 for the full version new it’s better than the cost of pro 7 full price but I think £129 still a bit steep for the upgrade if you've paid full price for v7 before 1st Aug and students / tutors take note of the cheap option @ £289 cos it is a steal at that price...
