Tape Stop Effect, Just Not the Tape Stop Effect...

Post by Ledger » Thu Jul 25, 2013 12:44 am

It's rather simple, but I for the love of God can not figure it out in my head the way that I think it should be done. I'm wanting to make a transition in the track that I'm working on, and had the idea of bringing the pitch down on EVERYTHING over the course of maybe an off-beat or two. I got the idea from a multiplitude of songs (it'll be lots of FX and synths to "fill the air" then everything sounds like the pitch drops into an impact of sorts with a huge reverb-like atmosphere/pad. Now, I don't know if the pitch is actually dropped, or if it's simply my ears playing tricks on me.I'd give examples, but I can't think of the name of any songs that do have it. :? Help if you can.

Since you want to do it on the whole track, why not just use dBlue in a free/demo DAW on the whole track once it's done, then just bounce out?

Manually I'd automate a pitch down slowly then a sharp pitch up, whilst also filtering down and then back up. Surely Reason has a global pitch control... idk?

I knew there was an extremely simple way to do it, but for some reason there seemed to be a much more complex way to do it that would somehow make it sound better. :cornlol:

I don't understand your point, are you saying you want an better/more complex way or that you thought my way would be more complex than it is?

yeah just automate the pitch wheel on the combinator

edit: for added flavor i like to thrown on a scream 4 tape distortion and automate the speed so it goes down with the pitch adds a nice subtle dulling of the sound

No, no. I already knew that it's extremely easy, but in my head, I for some odd reason thought that to make it much better, it'd take a lot more effort, but I now realize that it can't get any harder than just pitch bending. :cornlol:
