The second installment of 808 London is here.
A big thanks to everyone who came to our launch event, it was a smash, for our second event we bring you four artists who we feel are probably some of the most underrated yet most innovative people in underground music at the moment, spanning across many different genres, all coming together In the intimate warehouse style surroundings of the Rhythm Factory across two rooms, to bring you an unforgettable night of sound.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
COTTAM
Cottam shot to notoriety in 2009 with three limited edition 12”s that blew up the underground deep house and nu-disco scenes with no advertising and no info – combining neo-soul, afrobeat and hip hop with slo-mo house grooves all three sold out in double quick time and ended up in many ‘best of 2009’ charts.
Since then, Cottam has concentrated on developing his own style of sub-aquatic acid house – remixes for luv jam on Phonica’s label, Pattern Select on delusions of grandure and Morning Factory on 20:20 vision offshoot Fina have complemented original tracks on Quintessentials, Wolf Music, German undercover label Story and the summer anthem ‘Sunrise Sunset’.
A burgeoning career behind the decks has seen Cottam DJ around the world from London & Ibiza super clubs to the dirtiest basements of Berlin and Manchester. A studio mix recording can never match the off the cuff ideas and crowd interaction of a live set, that can take in anything from Balearic disco edits to rough techno slowed down to a sexy shuffling tempo, classic house to euphoric disco all mixed with a skill, grace and swagger, topped off with a trademark cap.
AIRHEAD
With each release, London based producer Airhead (a.k.a Rob McAndrews) has consistently carved out his own distinctive sound. Early records ‘Paper Street’ and ‘Pembroke’ (a collaboration with James Blake) led him to sign with forward-thinking R&S Records, with whom he released ‘Wait’ and ‘Pyramid Lake’, earning ‘Best New Music’ on Pitchfork along the way.
Resident Advisor have described him as ‘One of bass music’s most quietly fascinating producers’, XLR8R have called him ‘one of the most technically skilled, idea-laden producers emerging from the UK’, whilst he has also received support from the likes of Thom Yorke, Gilles Peterson, Benji B and Mary Anne Hobbs to name but a few.
with his outstanding debut full length album "Airhead For Years" having just been released a few weeks ago on R&S records, 2013 is set to be a huge year for the London artist.
ALTERED NATIVES
UK producer Altered Natives (a.k.a. Danny Yorke) is, as far as we’re concerned, extremely underrated. The broken-house badman has been doing his thing for over a decade now, never really paying much attention to trends and distractions around him. In recent years he has released a slew of perspiring, drum-driven house music for his own Eye4Eye imprint, Bosconi Records and Martyn’s 3024.
He has recently released the last installment in his TENEMENT YARD album series, TENEMENT YARD VOL. 3, a full-length which, much like its predecessors, features track after track of hard-edged, bass-heavy, no-frills house. It's a safe bet that anyone who likes their dance music dark and dirty won't be disappointed.
ENDIAN
Endian is the new house music project from George Levings, one half of the legendary D&B outfit Commix.
Endian's main focus is keeping his productions as 'raw and analogue' as possible, a goal which he has achieved with the help of his newly built hardware studio. With his roots firmly in DNB, the london based producer drew inspiration for his 2012 debut 'Birdhouse' from the early Metalheadz sound, describing it as an attempt to bridge the gap between drum and bass and techno. 'Dubplate' is a weightier cut, delivering an infectious rhythm sure to inject energy into any dance floor.
since then he has featured on the huge NONPLUS compilation album with the raw club track STRAIGHT INTENTION, as well as adding a slew of remixes to his name, we predict this is the start of something big with ENDIAN, watch this space!
