VinylSound vst - Atmospheres for chillstep, future garage

Post by angryrancor » Sun Aug 18, 2013 2:08 am

Made another free VST... - it's called VinylSound, and for putting realistic vinyl/record atmosphere in to your tracks! If anyone is making future garage, chillstep, or anything that needs vinyl background check it out.

*13 quality pre-loaded vinyl pop, click and crackle loops
*+100% to -100% speed control
*Master volume control

Can you load your own loops into the VST? What advantages does this give me over just loading my own recorded crackle/pop loops (edit) into my DAW?

Not hating, just curious.

Not right now, but I'm working on another version that will allow you to do that along with other features. The advantage is you have an easy speed control on the VST and they are all pre leveled and you get a fun little interface on it too. Also you don't have to hunt for the individual samples yourself.

Various sources. Mostly from freesound. They are all free to use, (even commercially) - a few require attribution however - license information for each sound is included with the VST in a text file with the download.

My plan is to record a lot of vinyl loops myself for future revs - trying to source a turntable at the moment for that. But this release still has a lot of good ones in it.

For the time being I think I'll stick to using my own recordings in the way I have been, but I'm sure this'll be usefult to people who are working totally in the box.

Dope pack man!!! Would it be cool if i added them in to the vst? I can add a link to the original post in the readme (with use restrictions if there are any), and put your name in the selector display before all the files...

If you'd rather have me not do that, also cool. But really cool pack. Thanks so much for sharing!!!!!!!!!!! :w: :U:

Yeah I thought he might of just been passing of your pack as his own, but inside a vst.

That doesn't seem to be the case though, everything seems to be legit.

so carry on man ;-)

So what exactly does this do? Is it affecting the sound or just adding in a crackle sound

What advantage does this have over manipulating an audio clip? At present, the VST only offers stock sounds with crackle/pitch adjustment. If I were to do this using audio clips, it'd require less CPU and I'd be able to use my own samples.

Also, the GUI is a little bit MSPaint for my liking...is there plans to release any more professional/varied skins?

Also, what would be the difference between this and say this http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/vinyl/ ?

Nice idea OP. From the sounds of it OP's plugin is designed to simply add background vinyl noise to a track. Izotope's version as well as adding pops/crackles etc actually affects the sound so you can degrade it and actually make it sound lower quality (like from a worn vinyl) it seems if you want something subtle just to fill things up OP's might make a better fit however if you want something a little more heavy handed then Izotopes would be the better option :D

Got it. I havent had time to produce or play with anything latley, so i havent had the chance to check out op's plugin. But if thats the case, sounds like it could be a cool tool for adding some some white noise (but more interesting).

Thanks a bunch! One of the reasons I made this was that I found myself using Izotopes plugin and after a few tracks just felt it didn't have enough variety (side note: I also don't like how izotopes will run when your track is not playing. Drives me nuts!)

So I wanted to make something that had more variety in it, with both real recordings and synthesized vinyl simulations vs izotopes synthesized only. Also I like to create things that look like real life instruments... Which is why there is a turntable on it and the speed slider is where the slider would be on a real turntable. Sometimes I find it to help my own creative process when software is built like real life instruments.

Also when I was looking at vinyl tracks that people have put out for free, there is a lot of diversity of volumes in them. Some are recorded REALLY low even, like peaking at -20db. So I normalize all the ones i put in to approx the same level, so you can switch between them easily and select a good one and tune it fast.

I think I mentioned earlier but I'm trying to source or borrow a turntable or maybe add a good amount more synthesized vinyl sounds to it in the future. So when decide to update it those will be in there. On that note if anyone wants their own recordings or synthesis added to it send me a message. If you want to retain rights on the use I can add that to the readme file.

This is a pretty good idea. I'll see if I can think some up, or if you have ideas send em over to me.

Adding in a selected vinyl crackle/noise track. And then you can either change the midi note coming in and/or use the speed slider to change the sound of the vinyl crackle/noise.
