My brother's been a dancehall/reggae DJ for years as well and from what I understand roots reggae soundsystems do exactly the same thing as you all are describing The Bug do at parties. I remember one party where the crew came around with their own built soundsystem, one sampler box and one turntable and poked fun at my brother for using headphones and two decks. They then proceeded to play the most obscure reggae/dub records all separated by horns and other samples.

Look I don't know if his sets are actually shit or not but I'm saying that it's plain retarded to tell someone to stay away from the decks just because the way that they play tunes doesn't fit into your little world of what DJing is. Turntablists might have a thing or two to say about "boring" beatmatching sets for example and they might even tell someone like Yunx to stay away from the decks if they had the same mindset as some people in here.

i dont remember ne1 saying you had to beatmatch, have long transitions, or any of that. there isn't a rule book on mixing genre X. but there are definitely people who will train wreck and clear the floor right? i guess the bug had a couple of bad nights or crowds or whatever you want to chalk it up as. but i have witness plenty of producers, artists, singers, celebrities, standing where they don't belong and fucking up for an hour or two. so the verdict is out on his DJing cause some of you say its the dancehall or soundsystem style and some say its just awful but at least the man makes some great tunes.
