8-bit computer game 'fills'
Have no idea what they're called, if they're even called anything, but;
How you people get those 8 bit computer game / nintendo sounding 'fills'. They sound kind of like an arpeggiator, but I'm not sure. They could be manualy drawn in midi.
Is there a specific synth thats good for getting these sounds? I'm probably chatting shit but I'm sure someone knows what I'm chattin bout.
Cheers!

Audio example?
If you mean little arp frills I normally do them manually with a pretty basic saw or square wave synth (check the track in my sig for what I mean).

Arpeg or manual... It really doesn't matter! I love to use arpegs/some people love to draw the sequence for more control.
The sound is pretty easy... But it'll require some experimentation too keep it interesting and too be 'creative'
But basically it's indeed a basic saw/square wave sequence. (Most of the times it's monophonic!)
Try experimenting with chorus/phaser, delays, reverb, decay of your notes, panning automation, filtering, a little frequency modulation, ...
But above all try to find some beautiful sequences!
Zomby uses that 8 bit sound all the time, but in a fantastic way! Check some of his tunes.

Re: 8-bit computer game 'fills'
Cheers for the feedback people, was just what I'm after! Much appreciated
Will have to try that miniSID VST.
Thanks again peeps!
It was actually this kind of 8-bit sound I was refering to, Zomboy I mean lol. I think when it's used effectively at the end of bars in a track, an 8-bit arp fill sounds the nuts! Gives a track a bit more musicality.societyloser1 wrote:
